Something new is coming to the National Library Singapore this December!🎉

NLB will be bringing the Four Great Classics - Journey to the West, Water Margin, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and Dream of the Red Chamber - to life through an immersive exhibition! Featuring rare cultural relics on loan from the National Library of China, some of which have never been exhibited outside of China, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to encounter these literary treasures up close.

But did you know these stories have connections right here in Singapore? Explore our National Library collections, including a 30-volume Baba Malay translation of Romance of the Three Kingdoms published in Singapore in the 1890s, a testament to how these classics have transcended languages and cultures to become part of our multicultural heritage.

We can't wait to welcome visitors from all communities to discover more about these stories that have shaped cultures across Asia for centuries!

A new chapter begins.

National Reading Movement is now ReadSG.

In this digital era, it’s hard to remember when was the last time you really got to sit down and read a book. There are more distractions, more responsibilities than there were 10 years ago. And if you’ve been feeling it's been getting harder to read deeply, read critically, read well, you are not alone.

We want to inspire a love for reading and nurture a vibrant reading culture, while acknowledging that it is getting more and more difficult to find the time to get lost in a book. So while our name has changed, the spirit of the reading movement has not.

We want to build on the successes and momentum of the National Reading Movement. ReadSG will continue to bring together partners across Singapore to make reading more accessible, enjoyable and meaningful for everyone. Join us as we share book recommendations, reading inspiration, and opportunities to connect through stories.

All Things Singapore is finally here! 🎉

AT SG invites you to uncover the myths, legends and hidden stories woven into Singapore's past. Enjoy immersive art installations, interactive experiences, live performances and hands-on activities, all rooted in stories and records held in our libraries and archives. 📚✨

This weekend, at the National Library Building, catch Lovebug by ART-ZOO at the plaza, and race through The Legend of the Garfish phygital adventure hunt across the library. Over at the National Archives at 8pm tonight, catch the shadow play Sister's Island – Meena & Leena.

All events are free. See you tonight! 🌚

NLB has officially signed Memorandums of Understanding with the National Library of Korea (NLK) and National Archives of Korea (NAK) on 14 Aug 2026.

NLB Chief Executive Officer Melissa Tam signed the MOUs with NLK Chief Executive Nam Young-Jun, and NAK President Lee Yong Chul, respectively. These MOUs serve to deepen our partnership between our institutions, promoting deeper collaboration and information sharing in the Libraries and Archives fields. NLB looks forward to working closely with our Korean partners in the years to come.

The NLB Scholarship supports passionate individuals committed to promoting reading and shaping the future of Singapore's libraries and archives. More architects will be able to appreciate Singapore's architectural heritage with the latest contribution to the Singapore Architecture Collection by RSP. With artefacts from landmark projects such as the Clarke Quay Restoration, Henderson Waves and the Singapore Indoor Stadium, that's a new generation of architects who can continue to seek inspiration from our archives.

Managed jointly by NLB, Urban Redevelopment Authority, and National Heritage Board, the SAC is a repository of architectural materials of buildings in Singapore that were completed after 1965, and tells the stories behind the design of Singapore's landmarks.

We thank RSP for their generous donation to the SAC. Their historical project artefacts, original drawings and archival photography will serve as an important reference for understanding past design and construction processes, and form a permanent, publicly accessible part of Singapore's built heritage archive.

These artefacts are currently on display at the 70 Years of RSP: Where Design Meets Humanity exhibition. 70 Years of RSP: Where Design Meets Humanity will run until 26 October 2026 at the URA Centre. Book your tour slot at https://rsp.design/rsp70tour/.

This National Day long weekend, take a walk through history at The Albatross File: Singapore's Independence Declassified exhibition.

Make sure to check out the newly added display, featuring early drafts of the pledge by then-Ministers Ong Pang Boon and S Rajaratnam, introducing the important idea of forgetting differences of race, language and religion, and working together to build a democratic and equal society.

From now to 31 Dec 2026, a new display will be added to The Albatross File exhibition, featuring earlier drafts of the pledge proposed by then-Ministers Ong Pang Boon and S Rajaratnam. 60 years on for when the pledge was first written, gain new insights into how the pledge came to be.
