On 1 October 2026, ICA officers at Pasir Panjang Scanning Station foiled an attempt to smuggle an assortment of controlled weapons and am******on into Singapore via an inbound cargo container.

Based on information received from ICA’s Integrated Targeting Centre (ITC), the container was referred for further checks. An ICA Image Analyst noticed anomalies in the scanned image and directed the container for enhanced checks, which uncovered a total of 6 packets and a bottle of BB pellets, 40 packets of 72 caps and 5 units of replica guns.

The case was referred to the Singapore Police Force for further investigation. A 19-year-old male teenager is assisting with investigation for an offence under the Guns, Explosives and Weapons Control Act 2021.

The Guns, Explosives and Weapons Control Act 2021 came into force on 1 July 2025, replacing the Arms and Explosives Act 1913, Dangerous Fireworks Act 1972 and Explosive Substances Act 1924.

From 2 November 2026, all foreign-registered vehicles with outstanding fines will not be able to apply or renew their Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) with the Land Transport Authority.

All foreign-registered vehicles must possess a valid VEP for entry into Singapore. Motorists without a valid VEP are advised to apply for one at least two weeks before entering Singapore. Vehicles without a valid VEP will be turned back to Malaysia.

Motorists are also strongly advised to check and settle any outstanding fines before travelling to Singapore, as it may take up to two calendar days for payments to be processed and reflected in the relevant agencies’ systems.

On 5 October 2026, ICA officers at Woodlands Checkpoint foiled an attempt to smuggle duty-unpaid ci******es via a Malaysia-registered car into Singapore.

ICA officers directed the car for enhanced checks. More than 700 cartons and over 2,000 packets of duty-unpaid ci******es were found concealed in various modified compartments of the car.

The 32-year-old male Malaysian driver was arrested in connection with the case. The exhibits and suspect were referred to the Singapore Customs for further investigation.

From today, motorcyclists and their pillion riders can use selected car lanes for automated immigration clearance when departing Singapore via Woodlands Checkpoint.

Automated clearance at these lanes will increase clearance capacity and efficiency for motorcyclists, as more lanes can be operated without the need for each lane to be manned by an ICA officer. Motorcyclists can also expect clearance times at these lanes to be about 10% shorter than at manual lanes (around two seconds) per motorcycle based on trials. Together, these improvements will enable more motorcyclists to be cleared efficiently, especially during peak periods.

At these lanes, facial recognition will be used to clear travellers automatically, making the clearance process seamless, contactless and more secure. Facial recognition is available to all Singaporean residents, long-term pass holders, and foreign visitors who have previously entered Singapore.

𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨:
• Lift up helmet visor, remove sunglasses and face masks before entering the lane.

• Insert the Autopass card (for foreign-registered motorcycles) only.

• Scan QR code generated via the MyICA mobile app or passport.

• Look at the screen to capture your facial image for identity verification.
Upon successful verification, exit the lane.

On 26 September 2026, ICA officers at Woodlands Checkpoint foiled an attempt to smuggle duty-unpaid ci******es into Singapore via Malaysia-registered car.

ICA Search & Examination officers directed the car for enhanced checks and discovered more than 980 packets of duty-unpaid ci******es concealed within tyres.

The 31-year-old male Malaysian driver was arrested in connection with the case. The exhibits and suspect were referred to Singapore Customs for further investigation.
