Earlier this afternoon, Speaker Seah Kian Peng visited the Embassy of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic in Singapore to sign the condolence book for the passing of HE Xaysomphone PHOMVIHANE who passed away on 8th August 2026. After signing the book, Speaker Seah requested the Ambassador of Lao PDR to Singapore HE Vilatsone Visonnavong to help convey a condolence letter to the Vice-President of the National Assembly HE Dr Sounthone Xayachack.

The late Dr Xaysomphone who served as President of the National Assembly of Laos was Speaker Seah’s counterpart in Lao PDR. The two leaders last met during the 45th AIPA General Assembly in Laos in October 2024 when Dr Xaysomphone had served as then President of ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA). Dr Xasomphone, a member of the politburo of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee, devoted his entire life serving his country with distinction. He will be sadly missed.
