Welcome to the Official page of Japan Creative Centre (JCC). Under the theme “Innovation and Tradition”, JCC strives to promote the culture of Japan in Singapore by organizing a variety of events including exhibitions, lectures, demonstrations and workshops to showcase Japan

’s creativity in arts and technologies. Whilst our priority lies in areas such as Art, Architecture, Anime, Fashion and Design, JCC also perseveres to serve its guests with other kinds of interesting aspects of Japan. Through those events, JCC provides opportunities for creative collaboration and networking among Singapore and Japanese professionals and students. Please do refer to our page photos to view some of our past events! JCC’s page is a community of friends interested in Japan and Japanese culture. We expect members of this community to act with common courtesy and refrain from personal attacks or using profanity when posting comments. JCC also reserves the right to delete or moderate comments at any time. Japan Creative Centre is located just a few steps away from Orchard Road, the heart of Singapore’s commercial and shopping district. The Centre has a multi-purpose hall 6m x 11m, an exhibition room 6m x 5m and an e-library equipped with computers and audio-visual aids. JCC facilities are open to the public and available for use by individuals and organizations who wish to co-organize Japan-related events and activities with JCC free of charge. JCC also serves as an Information Centre where you can learn and experience Japan’s traditional and popular culture as well as browse books, magazines, and pickup travel brochures at our e-library.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗝𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗲𝗮: 𝗔 𝗚𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿🍵

Ambassador Ishikawa Hiroshi hosted a tea ceremony on 20 August at his residence, with the presence of Mr Kobori Sojitsu, the 13th Grand Master of Enshu Sado School. The guests included Mr Albert Chua, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and his wife Ms Patricia Lam, Mr Loh Khum Yean, Chairman of Maritime Port Authority of Singapore, and his wife Mrs Jennifer Loh, and Mr Chew Hock Yong, Chairman of National Parks Board, and his wife Mrs Chew Yan Lin.

In a calm and serene atmosphere, the guests had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Sado, the Japanese Way of Tea. The Grand Master explained in detail about the spiritual essence and history of Enshu Sado, and answered many questions raised by the guests. He also highlighted his handwritten scroll reading 古教照心 (kokyou shoushin), which is a saying from a Zen priest that expresses the importance of learning – the teachings from many years ago can still enlighten one’s heart.

Singer-songwriter and Visual Artist Rie fu of well known tracks such as "Life is Like a Boat" and "I Wanna Go to a Place" is showcasing her artworks at JCC until tomorrow (27 August)!

Inspired by the natural and urban sounds recorded in Singapore and Japan, her works come together in an exhibition titled "Soundscapes of Singapore & Japan", and also marking 60 years of formal diplomatic relations between the two countries.

📢 Japan Creative Centre set up a booth at an Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) scholarship event on 19 August! Education Attaché Ms Ishii Izumi, accompanied by a local staff member, introduced opportunities to around 100 students looking for PhD programmes in Science .

𝙇𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙩 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙖 𝙗𝙤𝙬𝙡 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙚𝙖🍵

A Japanese tea ceremony demonstration by Mr Kobori Sojitsu, the 13th Grand Master of the Enshu Sado School, was conducted at Casuarina Primary School on 19 August. Over 80 Primary 4 and 5 students learnt about the Japanese Way of Tea, as well as the accompanying etiquette, manners, values and greetings, from the Grand Master. The students also took back lessons about the deeper meanings behind the three greetings, 𝘰𝘴𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘪 𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘥𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘴𝘶 (excuse me for going ahead of you), 𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘬𝘦𝘬𝘬𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘶 (it is very good), 𝘨𝘰𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘢𝘮𝘢 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘵𝘢 (thank you for the tea), which can be adapted to everyday life.

🇯🇵 𝗔𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗿𝗮𝘀: 𝗞𝗶𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗬𝘂𝗸𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝗿 𝗡𝗮𝗴𝗮𝘀𝗮𝗸𝗶 𝗜𝘄𝗮𝗼 👘

A fascinating lecture on the history of 𝘒𝘪𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘰 and 𝘠𝘶𝘬𝘢𝘵𝘢 was held at JCC on Friday, 14 August, by Mr Nagasaki Iwao, Deputy Director of Marubeni Gallery in Japan and a specialist in Japanese textiles and costumes.

To a full house, Mr Nagasaki traced the history and evolution of these iconic garments, including the meanings behind different terms, and changes in colours and patterns over time.

He also discussed some of the traditional and contemporary customs, etiquette and occasions for wearing 𝘒𝘪𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘰 and 𝘠𝘶𝘬𝘢𝘵𝘢 in Japan.

The lively Q&A session that followed featured many audience questions, ranging from the differences between women’s and men’s 𝘒𝘪𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘰, to guidance on 𝘒𝘪𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘰 and 𝘠𝘶𝘬𝘢𝘵𝘢 dressing for Singapore’s hot and rainy climate. It was an informative evening of learning and appreciating Japan’s rich textile and cultural heritage.

📢 Japan Creative Centre set up a Study in Japan booth at the Victoria Junior College EdVantage Fair 2026 on 5 August!

First Secretary and newly appointed Education Attaché Ms Ishii Izumi passionately introduced Japan as an attractive study destination to the many students who visited the booth. The overall fair saw a great turnout with hundreds of students. The Embassy of Japan and JCC hope that many talented students with a keen interest in Japan will choose the country to pursue their higher studies!

The 4th Science Community Singapore, a networking event for Japanese researchers and engineers, will hold a lecture by Mr Oba Yutaka of the National University of Singapore .

💭 Title: The University-Based Startup Ecosystem in Japan and Singapore
📝Summary: While research is the core and most important activity at universities, determining how to apply research findings to solve real-world challenges is just as crucial as the research itself. The Singapore government has allocated a budget of 3.7 billion SGD through an initiative called Research, Innovation & Enterprise (RIE) to be spent by 2030, and in Japan as well, central and local governments are implementing various policies aimed at realising innovation driven by research.

Mr Oba Yukata is the Country Director for Japan at NUS Enterprise, which is the industry-academia collaboration arm contributing to realising this innovation through intellectual property management, entrepreneurship education, the creation and support of startups based on research technologies and the strengthening of research collaboration between Japan and Singapore. In this talk he will introduce their activities at NUS and discuss how research can contribute to solving social issues.
