Bangkok may be known for its busy streets, but it can be surprisingly bicycle-friendly. Beyond the main roads lies a network of narrow lanes, historic neighborhoods, canals, and local communities that are best explored on two wheels.
Cycling lets you move at your own rhythm. You can stop for a cup of coffee, admire a hidden temple, watch daily life unfold in a quiet alley, or follow a street simply because it looks interesting. In Bangkok, some of the most memorable places are found between destinations.
Here are seven routes that invite you to discover the city one pedal at a time.

Hidden along one of Bangkok’s old canals, Khlong Bang Luang reveals a quieter side of the city — where wooden houses still line the water, narrow walkways connect old communities, and life moves at the slow rhythm of the canal.
Once part of the original course of the Chao Phraya River, this historic waterway has existed since the Ayutthaya period. Today, the neighbourhood is best known for Baan Silapin, the Artist’s House, which helped bring new life and attention back to the old canal community.
Spend time at riverside cafés and art spaces, wander through old wooden walkways, cross small bridges into hidden temples, and discover a version of Bangkok that still feels deeply connected to its past.

Some journeys are not measured by distance, but by rhythm. The Mahachai–Maeklong route is one of them.

This journey follows the tempo of trains slowing into stations, ferries crossing wide rivers, and markets that briefly pause, then come back to life. It begins in the western park of Bangkok,Wongwian Yai, and gradually drifts outward—through railway-side markets, fishing villages, wooden houses by the water, and canals lined with fruit orchards.

Along the way, you’ll ride local trains and boats, walk through communities shaped by the sea and the river, and taste food rooted in daily labor and local ingredients. There are moments of spectacle, like the world-famous Maeklong Railway Market, and quieter scenes that reveal themselves slowly—old houses, floating markets, evening street food, and conversations that belong to the place.
This is not a journey designed to be rushed.
It’s a journey that asks you to move at the pace of the tracks and the tide, and to notice how life continues in between.
