Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has announced adjustments to Cabinet and other appointments, to strengthen our leadership team.

The Ministry of Trade & Industry will also be renamed as the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry (METI), from 1 October 2026.

Our new name reflects Singapore’s growing focus on energy. Access to secure, clean and competitively-priced energy is critical to Singapore’s economic growth, climate goals and national resilience.

MTI’s mission has always been to drive growth, safeguard and expand our economic space, build a future-ready economy and create good jobs and opportunities for Singaporeans.

That remains METI's core mission.
