Warm and long-standing defence ties were reaffirmed as the Chief of Army of the Malaysian Armed Forces (Tentera Darat Malaysia), General (GEN) Tan Sri Azhan Bin Hj Md Othman, made his introductory visit to Singapore from 23 to 25 August 2026.

During his visit, GEN Azhan called on our Minister for Defence, Mr Chan Chun Sing, Chief of Defence Force (CDF), Vice Admiral (VADM) Aaron Beng, and Chief of Army (COA), Major-General (MG) Cai Dexian. He also inspected the Guard of Honour at MINDEF.

GEN Azhan later visited the 3rd Singapore Division (3 Div) at Jurong Camp, where he received a brief and viewed static displays showcasing a range of the Singapore Army’s warfighting platforms and capabilities, including the Hunter Armoured Vehicle-Launched Bridge (HT AVLB), the TPQ-53 Weapon Locating Radar, and the VELOCE 15 mini-Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (V15 mUAV).

The visit underscores the close and enduring defence relationship between Singapore and Malaysia. As both armies commemorate the 30th anniversary of Exercise Semangat Bersatu (XSB) this year, regular interactions through bilateral exercises, high-level visits, professional exchanges, and military courses continue to deepen mutual understanding and strengthen people-to-people ties between both armies.

Our Singapore Army and the United States (U.S.) Army successfully concluded Exercise Lightning Strike (XLS) 2026, held from 17 to 22 August 2026 across Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) and Yakima Training Center (YTC), Washington, USA.

As part of the Subject-Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE), XLS 2026 provided opportunities for our delegation to exchange knowledge and professional perspectives with their U.S. Army counterparts on emerging technologies and capabilities, including Unmanned Systems, Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS) and Motorised Infantry capabilities.

Through professional sharing and discussions, visits to training simulation facilities and observation of live-firing activities, the delegation gained valuable insights into how the U.S. Army employs and integrates these capabilities in an operational environment, including how simulation and technology can enhance training realism and effectiveness. These exchanges enhance our efforts to advance training approaches and strengthen future capability development.

XLS 2026 underscores the close and long-standing defence relations between both armies.

Last week, Operationally Ready National Servicemen (NSmen) from the Combat Service Support Command (CSSCOM) gathered in Kranji Camp III for the CSSCOM NS Workplan Seminar 2026.

Commander CSSCOM, Military Expert 8 (ME8) Tan Mu Yen, recognised the accomplishments of our NSmen over the past work year and shared CSSCOM’s future direction. Major (MAJ) (NS) Xu Yuanhao Emerson, Project Officer with 3rd SAF Transport Battalion (3 Tpt Bn) and Senior Lieutenant Colonel (SLTC) (RET) Muthtamilan Vellasamy, formerly Chief of Staff, 3rd Division Support Command (3 DISCOM) also shared their reflections on their years of service.

During the seminar, CSSCOM recognised NSmen and volunteers who had gone above the call of duty and served with dedication. They included outstanding NS Soldier and Commander of the Year such as Corporal First Class (CFC) (NS) Eugene Chean who helped to operationalise portable X-Ray capabilities in the field, ME4 (NS) Muhammad Nurhafiz Bin Juma'at who demonstrated commitment and leadership in tapping on his experience working in the public healthcare system to mentor other medics, and SAF Volunteer 3 (SV3) Li Qiu, who had volunteered her expertise as an operating theatre nurse to train our medics over the past decade.

CSSCOM also recognised Second Sergeant (2SG) (NS) Abdul Basit who continues his journey, having served as a Transport Operator and Platoon Sergeant before his recent appointment as Company Sergeant Major. 2SG (NS) Basit is a proud graduate of the CSSCOM Operationally Ready National Service Specialist Leadership Program (COSLP), which offers committed NSmen a chance to be appointed as Commanders and take on higher responsibilities in National Service.

On 14 Aug 26, Personnel Command (PERSCOM) celebrated its 15th Anniversary and Promotion Rally at CMPB, bringing together PERSCOMians past and present for an evening of reflection and celebration. PERSCOM looked back at its journey, from humble beginnings, to the achievements made today, and how the HR community is primed to transform the future of HR and digital administration.

In the first part of the event, colleagues from the Army Personnel Management Centres conducted engagement sessions for our Dual-Tracked Career Officers (HR) and HR Defence Executive Officers (DXOs), focusing on their career development and growth in the HR community.

The event then pivoted to the Commemoration and Promotion Rally. It was an honour to have all former Commanders join Commander PERSCOM on stage to witness the unveiling of the “Home of PERSCOM” landmark. PERSCOM also formally launched its NS Alumni, to recognise alumni advocates who have been rallying the alumni community. The evening concluded with dinner, allowing all PERSCOMians to celebrate together.

As PERSCOM marks 15 years of HR Administration Excellence, this milestone belongs to every individual who has contributed to the Formation’s journey. Excel to Serve!

Our Singapore Army’s team from Headquarters Commandos (HQ Cdo) participated in the 41st edition of Leapfest, an annual international military parachuting competition and training event hosted by the Rhode Island National Guard in the United States.

This inaugural participation allowed our paratroopers to benchmark our parachuting skills and proficiency against other participating militaries from around the world.

For the team category, our paratroopers placed 13th out of 48 participating teams, while First Warrant Officer (1WO) Melvin Ho placed 6th among 187 other jumpers in the individual category. We would like to thank the Leapfest Organising Committee for the opportunity and hospitality.

Congratulations to the team from HQ Cdo for their performance and professionalism during the competition. AIRBORNE!

On 14 Aug 2026, SAFTI commemorated its 60th Anniversary, marking six decades of developing Officers, Warrant Officers and Specialists (WOSpecs), and Military Experts for the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).

As part of the celebrations, SAFTIrians embarked on a heritage walk from Pasir Laba Camp to SAFTI Military Institute (SAFTI MI), learning more about the various landmarks that tell the SAFTI story. Artefacts from across the Schools and Centres were sealed in a Time Capsule to preserve the history, spirit, and identity of SAFTI MI for future leaders who will one day open it.

As we commemorate this milestone year, Our Army celebrates our pioneers and all SAFTIrians who have contributed to SAFTI’s mission of developing Leaders of Character for an integrated SAF.

From 3 to 5 Aug 2026, a delegation from Personnel Command (PERSCOM), led by Commander PERSCOM, Colonel (COL) Alan Tan, conducted a working visit to the United States (U.S.) Army, focusing on Human Resources (HR) Transformation and Manpower Operations.

During the visit, the delegation engaged bilateral counterparts from the U.S. Army Human Resources Command (HRC), and the U.S. Army Adjutant General School (AGS). They also visited the U.S. Army Recruiting Division (USARD). COL Tan also engaged senior U.S. Army leaders, including Brigadier General (BG) Steven M. King, Acting Commanding General, U.S. Army HRC; COL Richard M. Strong, Commandant AGS and BG Sara Dudley, Commanding General, USARD.

The engagements covered key HR topics, including HR digitalisation, Al adoption, workforce transformation, and manpower operations development. The delegation gained valuable insights into the modernisation of the U.S. Army's enterprise HR systems, the development of a future-ready HR corps, and data-driven precision recruitment strategies.

This inaugural visit lays the foundation for future partnerships between Our Army and the U.S. Army’s HR entities. Our Army looks forward to strengthening institutional exchanges and deepening cooperation in the years ahead.

𝐈 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞.

For MAJ Julianah, service is about finding purpose and meaning by making a difference in the lives of others.

As a Logistics Officer, she ensures her unit's equipment is always mission ready, while providing her soldiers the resources they need to accomplish their missions.

While serving in the Guards formation, she volunteered to undergo the Guards Conversion Course to better understand the formation’s Close Knit Family. Powered by her determination, she successfully graduated as the first female non-Guards vocationalist.

Beyond her military duties, she has volunteered to teach yoga to detainees at the SAF Detention Barracks, promoting their physical and mental well-being. It reflects her belief that service is about making a positive difference to people, in any capacity.

“Anything But Regular means taking on challenges that most people never get to experience and loving every moment of it. Whether it’s live-firing exercises or operational missions, each experience reinforces why I choose to serve.”

This is her story, told through the moments she’s lived and captured.
