🌊 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟯 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗽: 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗣𝗹𝘂𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 (𝗥𝗣𝗣) 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽

On 19 August, members of the maritime community picked up essential life-saving skills at the RPP Maritime Workshop, jointly organised by and Singapore Civil Defence Force as part of Singapore Safety@Sea Week.

From Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use to fire extinguisher handling and first aid techniques, participants gained practical skills to respond with confidence in an emergency.

They also toured the newly built SCDF Marine Division Headquarters and learnt more about SCDF Marine’s history and milestones.

🌊 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗽: 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 & 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁

Day 2 of Singapore Safety@Sea Week 2026 brought together 55 companies and five associations from across the marine and maritime supply chain for the Marine & Maritime Leadership Breakfast.

Chief Executive Mr Wee Keong Ang called on leaders to embrace the Triple “A” of Safety Leadership — 1) be Aware of what is happening on the ground, 2) Available to their teams, and 3) ready to Act when safety is at stake.

The discussions that followed explored how leaders can strengthen safety across the workplace and supply chain, stay ahead of new risks from alternative fuels, and create a culture where people feel empowered to speak up.

The session also introduced the newly launched Singapore Near Miss Reporting System, a channel for sea space users to report near misses and help prevent incidents before they happen.

The morning closed with an important reminder: safety is not a compliance exercise — it is a choice that starts at the top, and one that must become part of our values and way of life.

🌊 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟭 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗽: 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆@𝗦𝗲𝗮 𝗦𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘂𝗺

Singapore Safety@Sea Week 2026 kicked off with our flagship Symposium on 17 August, bringing together maritime leaders, industry partners and frontline voices to discuss how we can work together to strengthen safety at sea.

In his keynote, Randy Chen, Vice Chairman of Wan Hai Lines, highlighted the importance of better visibility and information-sharing to improve cargo safety and prevent incidents. The discussions that followed explored the role of collective action, leadership and safety culture in driving change across the industry, alongside frontline perspectives on building trust, tackling complacency and preparing for new challenges, including the transition to electric vessels.

The Symposium also featured interactive showcases highlighting how technology is supporting maritime safety, from MPA's drone capabilities and IPOC System to immersive VR firefighting and smart rescue technology.

The day closed with a timely reminder from Mr Ishak Ismail, Chairman of the National Maritime Safety at Sea Council: everyone has a part to play in keeping our seas safe.

What happens when educators step beyond the classroom and into Singapore's maritime world?

Through the Teachers on Work Attachment Plus (TWA+) programme, in collaboration with the Academy of Singapore Teachers (AST), teachers like Jaslyn have been doing exactly that and the results are inspiring.

Watch Jaslyn share her reflections from her attachment at the Singapore Maritime Gallery, and hear how the experience shaped the learning resources she helped create for students.

Designed for self-directed, exploratory learning at the Gallery, learning resources have been co-created with teachers for primary, secondary, and junior college levels to explore Singapore's maritime heritage, industry development, and its deep connections to our economy and everyday lives.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟳 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱? 🌊

At our first public focus group discussion for the Maritime Singapore Master Plan (MSMP), over 40 participants shared their views on the future of the sector — including what could make maritime more visible, relatable and attractive as a career.

Conversations included creating spaces near the port where people can watch port operations up close, and giving young people more opportunities to experience the industry firsthand.

The discussion is part of a wider effort to hear from the public as we develop the MSMP, targeted for release in 2027.

𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆@𝗦𝗲𝗮 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗞𝗶𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗢𝗳𝗳! 🌊

Themed “All Hands on Deck: Safety First”, this year’s Safety@Sea Week brings together about 1,500 participants across 18 events from 17 to 21 August, uniting the maritime community around a shared commitment to safety.

In his opening address, Senior Minister of State for Law and Transport, Mr Murali Pillai, emphasised that maritime safety is underpinned by technology, the human spirit and partnerships — across regulators and industry, people and technology, and nations with a shared responsibility for safer seas.

The week also saw several key announcements:
🔹 Launch of the Singapore Near Miss Reporting System to encourage open reporting and shared learning The system is modelled on the internationally recognised Confidential Human Factors Incident Reporting Programme (CHIRP Maritime), who will independently receive the submissions and provide anonymised information to the Council, which will distill key safety lessons for sharing with the wider maritime community.
🔹 Operationalisation of the Integrated Port Operations Command, Control and Communications (IPOC) system to enhance situational awareness and coordination in our port waters
🔹 MOU between MPA and Ocean Infinity to explore autonomous and remote marine operations
🔹 The MPA Safety@Sea Awards, recognising masters and crew for their outstanding contributions to search and rescue efforts in 2025

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲? 🌏

Following Module 1 in July, the 6th Maritime Leadership Programme (MLP) continued its learning journey with Module 2 in Dalian, China, from 4 to 7 August 2026.

Focusing on “Global Maritime Transformation in Practice”, participants gained firsthand exposure to how maritime transformation is taking shape across the industry — from smart port technology and advanced shipbuilding to maritime education, classification standards and sustainable shipping.

Learning extended beyond the classroom as participants visited organisations including Dalian Maritime University, Dalian Shipbuilding Industrial Company, Port of Dalian, Chun An Shipping and China Classification Society. These visits offered valuable perspectives on how different parts of the maritime ecosystem are adapting to an evolving global landscape.

The journey continues with Module 3 from 1 to 4 September, where participants will explore “Leadership in Action: Driving Sustainability, Workforce and Digital Transformation.”
