Over three days, with close to 500 aviation professionals in attendance and diverse ideas exchanged on the future of aviation safety, the 4th Asia Pacific Summit for Aviation Safety ( ) has come to a close in Osaka, Japan. 🛫💡

We thank our co-organisers – Flight Safety Foundation and Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) – as well as our esteemed speakers and all attendees for bringing immense energy and thought leadership to every session.

From responsible AI integration to strengthening cross-border collaborations and safety leadership, the Summit reinforced that the future of relies on collective action and continuous innovation.

The 4th Asia Pacific Summit for Aviation Safety (AP-SAS) is officially underway in Osaka, Japan! ✈️🇯🇵

The Summit opened with a strong call for regional collaboration and robust safety leadership to navigate an increasingly volatile operating environment. Beyond reinforcing core safety fundamentals, the focus was also set on the responsible adoption of emerging technologies – including AI – with a clear emphasis that while digital innovation is key to transforming , strong human expertise, professional judgement and a positive safety culture remain paramount.

Opening proceedings began with welcome remarks by Dr Hassan Shahidi, President and CEO of Flight Safety Foundation and Mr Han Kok Juan, Director-General of CAAS. We were also honoured to have Mr Hajime Sasaki, Japan’s State Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism deliver the opening remarks, followed by a keynote address delivered by Mr Toshiyuki Onuma – marking the first time a President of the ICAO - International Civil Aviation Organization Council has done so.

Amid the growing complexities of the world, it is inspiring to see close to 500 global aviation leaders and executives, regulators and industry experts gather with a unified commitment to safety excellence.

Here’s to more designated spaces for recreational unmanned aircraft (UA) flying! ☁️

As part of a collaboration with SAFRA, CAAS is introducing a six-month trial of Unmanned Aircraft Flying Areas (UAFAs) at four SAFRA clubhouses at Choa Chu Kang, Mount Faber, Tampines and Toa Payoh, starting from 3 August 2026. The trial will allow us to explore how enclosed areas can be safely and meaningfully repurposed as designated UA flying spaces.

Honouring Mr Edmund Cheng’s distinguished leadership and unwavering dedication to CAAS and Singapore aviation.

As Mr Cheng concludes his term as Chairman CAAS, we celebrate his many contributions, from steering the Singapore aviation sector through the challenges of COVID‑19 to rebuilding the Singapore air hub and positioning it for the future.

As our Chairman, Mr Cheng always took time to connect with people, showing genuine care for our well‑being and development.

CAAS will be establishing TRAs over parts of Singapore on selected days in August 2026 to ensure the safety of the public and aircraft that will be flying at low level as part of the aerial activities for National Day Parade 2026 and its rehearsals.

During the stated dates and times, the conduct of all aerial activities including kite-flying, hoisting of captive balloons, release of free flight aerial objects and flying of unmanned aircraft such as drones into and within the TRAs, is strictly prohibited, unless expressively permitted by CAAS through a permit. The public is also advised not to be alarmed with the increase in flying activities over parts of Singapore during these dates and times.
