DesignSingapore Council’s (Dsg) vision is for Singapore to be an innovation-driven economy and a loveable city through design by 2025. As the national agency that promotes design, our mission is to develop the design sector, help Singapore use design for innovation and growth, and make life better in this UNESCO Creative City of Design. First, we help organisations and enterprises use design as a

strategy for business growth; and for excellent delivery of public services. Second, we nurture industry-ready talents skilled in design and innovation; and engender a design-minded workforce for the future economy. Third, we advance the Singapore brand through raising design appreciation on home-ground; helping local design talents and firms go international, and making emotional connections with people across the world. The Dsg is a subsidiary of the Singapore Economic Development Board. Singapore was designated UNESCO Creative City of Design in December 2015. The designation supports Singapore’s development of a creative culture and eco-system that integrates design and creativity with everyday life. It also expands Singapore’s opportunity to collaborate with cities from the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN). The City of Design Office is sited with Dsg which coordinates and implements programmes that respond to UCCN’s mission.

𝗥𝗘𝗜𝗡𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 returns for its second edition following its debut at Singapore Design Week 2025. This time, the design district is transformed into an immersive site where design meets play.

Presented by Singapore Science Park, curated by OuterEdit and supported by the DesignSingapore Council, 𝗥𝗘𝗜𝗡𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡: 𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗬 reframes play through the lens of design. It explores how thoughtful experiences can spark creativity, boost wellness, and bring people together.

Design-led innovation is typically a multi-stage process spanning research, insight generation, prototyping and commercialisation.

The Good Design Research & Development (GDRD) programme supports organisations and design firms through these stages, providing up to S$500,000* in co-funding. This enables firms to deepen their capabilities through applied experimentation, broaden their value propositions and bring new concepts to life, as seen in Tusitala’s 3D-printed tactile picture book adaptation of “Timmy & Tammy”.

How do we design and build systems that remain open, resilient, and responsive in an uncertain world?

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗼𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗲 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 responds not with rigid solutions, but with transdisciplinary points of view. The 15 projects are mapped across three themes:
🪔 𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘐𝘯𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴 & 𝘊𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴: Designs that reconfigure social bonds and living heritage. Ranging from kolam-making, to wearable languages and Peranakan tables, these projects activate culture as an evolving design system.
🔬 𝘛𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘯𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 & 𝘔𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘌𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘪𝘦𝘴: Here, designers investigate bio-based processes, digital intelligence, and hybrid production to produce sculptural décor created from eggshells, interactive quantum computing, 4D-printed orthopedic casts, and a unified AI workspace.
🏙️ 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘐𝘯𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴: Take a closer look at the systems that shape our daily lives: mimetic joints inspired by the turgidity of plant cells, and playable barcodes. These designs reframe the easily overlooked operational networks that quietly structure contemporary life.

Draw a digital kolam with hand gestures, generate an architecture render with the help of AI, create a vase design by crayon shading over textured lacquer thread motifs, discover creative applications of barcodes through an arcade-like game, and design your own portrait with facial feature magnets.
