【Indonesia🇮🇩】Waste Management Expert Dispatch Project in Surabaya (August 2026)

J.CLAIR Singapore, at the request of the City of Surabaya, dispatched a waste management expert from the Saitama Center for Environmental Science.
The expert introduced Japan’s recycling systems and waste reduction practices, and lively discussions were held on topics such as paid garbage bags and microplastics. To start with ourselves, all participants carried out waste separation in practice, experiencing the first step toward sustainable efforts.
On the final day, the expert proposed the introduction of “three-way separation (burnable, food waste, recyclable)” and highlighted the importance of raising public awareness and clarifying the role of local government. In particular, it was pointed out that selling separated resources can directly improve workers’ motivation and efficiency, emphasizing the need for surveys and stronger cooperation among facilities.
We hope this initiative will contribute, even in a small way, to improving waste management in Surabaya.

【インドネシア🇮🇩】スラバヤ市での廃棄物管理専門家派遣事業の実施について（2026年8月）

　クレアシンガポール事務所はスラバヤ市の要請を受け、埼玉県環境科学国際センターから廃棄物管理の専門家を派遣しました。
　専門家からリサイクルの仕組みやごみ削減の工夫を紹介し、ゴミ袋有料化やマイクロプラスチック問題などについて活発な議論がありました。まずは自分たちからということで、参加者でごみ分別を実際に行い、持続可能な取り組みの第一歩を体験しました。
　最終日には「３分別（可燃・生ごみ・資源）」の導入を提案し、住民意識の醸成や行政の役割を示しました。
　今回の取り組みが、スラバヤ市の皆さんの廃棄物管理の改善に少しでも役立てばうれしく思います。

📢 【Brunei🇧🇳】 Brunei JAPANESE FOOD FAIR 2026 – We Exhibited!
📢 The J.CLAIR Singapore Office participated in the “JAPANESE FOOD FAIR 2026” held in Brunei🇧🇳 from August 8 to 9!
A total of 35 booths featuring Japanese food from both within and outside Brunei, including ours, were set up, and the event was bustling with visitors throughout the two days. On stage, programs such as a tuna-cutting show and sushi-making experience were held, and our CLAIR staff also gave presentations promoting the food culture of their respective municipalities.
Many visitors to the CLAIR booth had already visited Japan, with Hokkaido being especially popular. There were also many people interested in exploring new destinations beyond Tokyo and Osaka.
We also installed a capsule toy machine (gachapon) for a lottery, which attracted enthusiastic participation from children and adults alike, giving them a chance to experience a part of Japanese culture.
Although Brunei’s population is only about 450,000—relatively small compared to other countries—we are delighted that this exhibition helped more people in Brunei discover new regions and foods of Japan!


📢 【ブルネイ🇧🇳】JAPANESE FOOD FAIR 2026 に出展しました！
クレアシンガポール事務所は、８月８日から９日にブルネイ🇧🇳で開催された「JAPANESE FOOD FAIR 2026」に出展しました！
当事務所を含めブルネイ国内外から35の日本食を取り扱うブースが出展し、２日間とも多くの人で賑わいました。
ステージではマグロの解体ショーや寿司握り体験など様々なプログラムが行われ、その中で我々クレア職員もそれぞれの派遣元自治体の食のPRをプレゼンしました！
クレアブースへの来場者の多くは日本を訪れたことがあり、特に北海道の人気が高いようでした。また、東京や大阪以外の新しい場所に行ってみたいという方も多くいらっしゃいました。
そして、抽選用にガチャポンを設置したところ、子供から大人まで沢山の方が興味津々で参加くださり、日本の文化の一端を体験いただきました。
ブルネイは約４５万人と他の国に比べると決して大きな人口ではありませんが、今回の出展がさらに多くのブルネイの方が新たな日本の地域や食を発見することにつながると嬉しく思います！

Orientation & Farewell Reception for the 2026 JET Programme✨

On July 15th the “Orientation & Farewell Reception for the 2026 JET Programme” was held at the Japan Cultural Centre in Singapore.

The event began with an orientation session for the new JET participants who will be heading to Japan this year. They received information on topics such as work visas and daily life in Japan, followed by a send-off reception.

During the reception, new JET participants actively engaged with other participants who shared the same destination or home region. It was wonderful to see them exchanging ideas with bright, excited expressions on their faces, clearly filled with anticipation for their new lives in Japan!

　今年度から日本の自治体に派遣される予定の新規JETメンバーに向けて、就労ビザや日本の暮らしなど説明に続いて、壮行会が実施されました。壮行会では、新規JETメンバーたちは派遣先自治体の出身者と積極的にコミュニケーションを取り、大きな期待に胸を膨らませつつ、きらきらとした表情で意見交換される姿が印象的でした！

【New! Ukiyo-e Exhibition: Genius Artists of the Late Edo and Meiji Periods】
Are you familiar with "Ukiyo-e"?
Ukiyo-e, from the late Edo period to the Meiji era, increasingly took on the characteristics of a "mass medium," while also being enjoyed by the public as a form of entertainment.
It is also a unique Japanese block print art form, created through the collaboration of publishers, artists, engravers, and printers.
This exhibition, with the cooperation of the Asai Collection, focuses on and introduces the "medium" aspect of Ukiyo-e. Please enjoy the diverse works of artists who captured the turbulent changes of the era and created fresh expressions!

Entries are now being accepted for the 16th Iwate Manga Award✨

The 16th Iwate Manga Award contest aims to use manga as a medium to promote the many appeals of the prefecture and to share Iwate’s brilliant manga culture.
All entries must be original works that have not been previously submitted or published.
Entries must be related to Iwate. All genres are accepted.

You may submit to any of the following categories:
*General category – create your own short story that focuses on anything related to Iwate
*1-4 panel (koma) manga category – create a one or more panel manga about Iwate.
*Illustration category – create illustrations on anything related to Iwate

Winners of the grand prize and excellence awards in the“General category”will be published on Comic Iwate WEB and receive a monetary reward.
For entries that pass the initial screening, there will be an opportunity for artists to receive constructive criticism regarding their work from a panel of comic magazine editors.

The “1-4 panel manga category” is further divided into general (high school and above) and junior divisions, which will be judged separately. Entries from all ages, beginners, and professionals are welcome.
Prize-winning submissions will be published on the Comic Iwate WEB page.

The “Illustration category” will also be judged in two divisions:
digital illustration (high school and above), and illustration (middle school and below).
Multiple entries are welcome, so please send us all of your wonderful creations!

応募作品は、未発表かつ未投稿のオリジナル作品でなければなりません。
また、作品は岩手に関連している必要があります。ジャンルは問いません。

応募できる部門は以下の通りです：
一般部門：岩手に関連した短編ストーリーを創作してください
1～4コマ部門：岩手に関連した1コマ以上のマンガを制作してください
イラスト部門：岩手に関連するイラストを制作してください

「一般部門」の大賞・優秀賞受賞作品はコミックいわてWEBに掲載され、賞金が授与されます。 一次審査を通過した作品については、マンガ編集者からアドバイスがもられます。
