What is faraid for? And what is wasiat for?

There's still a lot of misunderstanding about how the two actually work. Does a wasiat cancel out faraid? Can you just rely on faraid alone? Getting this wrong could mean the people you love most are left with nothing when you're gone.

Faraid protects your rightful heirs. Your wasiat protects everyone else not included in faraid, and lets you apportion part of it to charitable causes, up to a third of your estate.

We are heartened by Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs, Mr Zaqy Mohamad's visit to Al-Mawaddah Mosque, where he met the Mosque Management Board, staff, volunteers and residents.

His visit reflects the collective efforts that quietly sustain our mosques and strengthen their outreach to the community.

Together, let us uphold our shared amanah to keep our mosques welcoming, safe and close to the community.

As the weather gets hotter and some parts of Singapore begin to experience the haze, we’re making a small but necessary adjustment to our Friday sermon.

Starting this week (21 August 2026), the Friday sermon will be shortened temporarily, until further notice.

May this help make it a little easier for everyone to gather, worship and remain comfortable during these challenging weather conditions.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. May Allah keep us all safe and in good health. 🤲🏼

Head on to go.gov.sg/khutbahmuis for the Friday sermon!

We are deeply disturbed by the sexual offences committed against children, as reported yesterday. Our thoughts are first and foremost with them and their family.

What happened should never have happened. Not to any child. Not anywhere.

MUIS is working closely with relevant organisations to ensure the family receives the care and support they need.

We also recognise the serious questions this case raises about safety in our mosques. While the offender was neither a mosque staff member or volunteer, nor an accredited religious teacher under the Asatizah Recognition Scheme (ARS), some of the interactions took place at a mosque.

We cannot leave it at that.

We are reviewing our safeguards and strengthening security measures, particularly around informal activities and gatherings involving children and youths.

Our mosques must remain open and welcoming and places where our children, families and community can feel safe.

Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Zaqy Mohamad addresses the concerns many in our community are asking and what more we must do to keep our young safe.
