Odsek za kemijo materialov se ukvarja s sintezo, karakterizacijo in razvojem naprednih materialov za trajnostne, nizkoogljične energetske rešitve. Glavna podpodročja obsegajo raziskave sodobnih baterijskih materialov, razvoj premazov ter sintezo in karakterizacijo elektrokatalizatorjev. Za boljše razumevanje lastnosti in mehanizmov v omenjenih materialih razvijamo tudi lastne spektroskopske, elek

trokemijske in mikroskopske metode. Research in Department for Materials Chemistry focuses on synthesis, characterization and development of advanced materials for sustainable, low carbon energy solutions. The main research areas comprise advanced battery materials, coating development and synthesis and characterization of electrocatalysts. In order to better understand the properties and functioning of these materials, we also develop our own spectroscopic, microscopic and electrochemical methods.

In the article Unveiling True Limits of Electrochemical Performance of Organic Cathodes in Multivalent Batteries through Cyclable Symmetric Cells, we have applied a symmetric cell to organic cathodes. It allows us to reveal unprecedented performance of organic cathodes in bivalent (Mg, Ca) batteriess. Research work was highlighted as cover feature in Batteries & Supercaps journal.

The work was performed as part of the Polystorage MSCA ITN project.

In the past few months we hosted Rebecca Grieco, a PhD student from IMDEA in Madrid. She is working on synthesis of conjugated porous polymers for energy storage. As part of her secondment in MSCA-ITN Polystorage project, she was testing her materials in magnesium and aluminium metal anode batteries and performing ATR-IR mechanism investigation.

Naša sodelavka Dr. Sara Drvarič Talian je letošnja prejemnica zlatega znaka Jožefa Štefana! Nagrado je dobila za odmevnost doktorskega dela "Študij vpliva izbranih procesov in parametrov na notranjo upornost litij-žveplovih akumulatorjev ", v katerem je pod mentorstvom izr. prof. dr. Roberta Dominka s Fakulteta za kemijo in kemijsko tehnologijo UL na nov način obravnavala znane probleme litij žveplovih akumulatorjev z uporabo naprednih analitskih tehnik, predvsem preko meritev impedančne spektroskopije.

Our colleague dr. Sara Drvarič Talian is this year's recipient of the Jožef Štefan Emblem Prize! She received the award for the high impact of her doctoral dissertation "Study of selected processes and parameters influencing the internal resistance in lithium–sulfur batteries " prepared under the mentorship of Assoc. prof. Dr. Robert Dominko from the Faculty of Chemical and Chemical Technology at the University of Ljubljana. In her research she addressed in a new way the significant problems associated with sulfur batteries using advanced analytical techniques, mainly through the measurements of impedance spectroscopies.

Odsek za kemijo materialov se ukvarja s sintezo, karakterizacijo in razvojem naprednih materialov za trajnostne, nizkoogljične energetske rešitve.
