Travelling in Slovenia? A couple of important reminders for Irish citizens
🚣 Kayaking on the Soča River
If you are planning to kayak the Soča or Koritnica Rivers, you must have a valid river permit for some areas (dovolilnica).
Permits can be purchased through the official GoSoča website. https://gosoca.si/
After purchasing your permit, you must also select the date of use and activate it at least 30 minutes before entering the river.
Please make sure your permit is valid and activated before entering the water. The fine for using designated entry/exit points without a valid permit can be €800. Under Slovenian rules, a reduced payment of €400 may be available in certain circumstances, but choosing to challenge a fine can affect your entitlement to the reduced amount.
🚗 Breakdown on Slovenian motorways
If your vehicle breaks down on a Slovenian motorway or expressway, use the official DARS assistance service.

Please be alert to unofficial towing operators who may approach motorists and present themselves as DARS contractors. DARS advises motorists to use its contracted towing providers. These providers have a DARS logo displayed on the windscreen.
If someone claiming to be a DARS contractor appears not to be an official provider, contact the Slovenian Police on 113.
For Irish citizens travelling in Slovenia, we recommend keeping these numbers and links to hand before setting off.
