Ahead of Slovenian Statehood Day, Chargé d’Affaires Nigel Baker returned to the Park of Military History in Pivka for the unveiling of a statue honouring General Rudolf Maister, alongside Prime Minister Janez Janša, Defence Minister Valentin Hadinjak, and other members of the Government. 🇸🇮 Celebrating 20 years of the park and 35 years of Slovenia’s independence — the UK and Slovenia stand proudly as friends and NATO allies, committed to peace and security.

A garden full of friends and a party fit for a King. 👑✨

Last night we welcomed guests to the Ambassador’s Residence to celebrate the Official Birthday of His Majesty King Charles III - with pipers, jazz, outstanding British food, talented young musicians, and of course, our bespoke Kredarica Fizz. 🇬🇧🇸🇮🍸

Our invitation this year took inspiration from the Festival of Britain, which marks its 75th anniversary in 2026 - a celebration of creativity, innovation and optimism. A fitting inspiration for an evening dedicated to friendship, shared ambitions and the enduring partnership between the UK and Slovenia.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for such a memorable summer evening.

This weekend, Chargé d’Affaires Nigel Baker rode at Tandem of Smiles — an inclusive cycling initiative opening the road to people with visual impairments and others, showing how mobility is built on trust and cooperation.

Big thank you to Ljubljana Lions and Leo clubs for organising this wonderful initiative in partnership with Vidim Cilj Institute, firefighters and other organisations in the field of equal social inclusion - Ljubljana Lions Clubs will donate the Pony Duo tandem bicycles to Vidim Cilj Institute to be available to other users.🚲

Last week at Grad Štanjel, we gathered for a fascinating evening of Slovenian–Scottish Poetry Exchange - a discussion about writing and translating in smaller languages and dialects featuring Slovenian and two of the UK’s minority languages: Scots and Scottish Gaelic.

Through poetry, translation and music, poets showed how language is more than communication - it’s a bridge to understanding.📖
