Centenary unites American Slovenes
Slovenian heritage in America remains alive
The Slovenian Union of America celebrated its centenary in northern Minnesota. Hundreds of members and descendants of Slovenian immigrants from different parts of the United States gathered in Fortune Bay, Tower and Chisholm.

Three Slovenians, the biggest stage in football, and a New York final for the history books — a proud reflection of the friendship between Slovenia and the United States!
Ambassador Roberts was honored to host a celebratory dinner for the all-Slovenian officiating team behind this year's FIFA World Cup Final: guests of honor Slavko Vinčić — the first Slovenian ever to referee a World Cup Final — with assistant referees Tomaž Klančnik and Andraž Kovačič.
Thank you to President of the Slovenian Football Association, Radenko Mijatović; Leon Korošec, State Secretary from the Ministry of Economy, Labor and Sport, and FIFA's worldwide sponsors, McDonalds, Coca-Cola and VISA to helping us celebrate tonight and America’s 250th year.
The perfect send-off, too — as Slavko retires at the top, the Ambassador marked the moment with a cake in his honor. Čestitke, Slavko! 🎂🏆

Ambassador Roberts was delighted to welcome ASEF: American Slovenian Education Foundation fellows to the Residence in Ljubljana for coffee, joined by ASEF Institute Director Dr. Rok Sekirnik, Head of Communications Kaja Ravnak, and two Slovenian ASEF alumni to the United States. Meeting students of Slovenian heritage researching in Slovenia — and Slovenian students pursuing fellowships in the U.S. — is a wonderful reminder of how academic exchange and people-to-people ties keep strengthening the U.S.–Slovenia friendship.

We were honored to welcome Assistant Secretary of State Cate Dillon and Ambassador Roberts, whose visits underscored the value of the next generation of transatlantic innovators and the enduring U.S.-Slovenia partnership. Thanks to every speaker and site visit host who opened their doors and shared their journey — many of whom are proud alumni of USG exchange programs and SEI itself. From students and ski jumpers to government officials and exchange alumni, Assistant Secretary Cate Dillon's visit showcased people-to-people diplomacy in action.
