🔥‼️CATASTROPHIC WEATHER FOR WILDLIFE‼️🔥

Tuesday is going to be an awful day for wildlife in the area. Temperatures currently predicted to range from 45-47 around the region.

Please, put water out for the animals. Turn on sprinklers for short periods of time for birds etc.. If you find a heat stressed animal, please call a wildlife rescue for advice. 🐨🦇🐦🦘

We will available 24/7 for bats 🦇 over the next few days. If you see any heat stressed bats, or any bats exposed in daylight, please do not handle them and call us immediately on 0438 489 914 or 0419 866 992.

🦇‼️ HEAT STRESS WARNING ‼️ 🦇

Our bats, both microbats and flying foxes struggle with warm days. Flying foxes cannot tolerate consecutive days of 38+ degree heat, or a single day or 42+ degree. These temperatures cause heat stress and mass fatality events. This current weather forecast is very concerning, and heartbreaking as there will probably be a large loss of life.

Bats may be found in unusual places during the day, during and just after this heatwave. If you find any bats exposed and in unusual places, please immediately call 0438 489 914 or 0419 866 992.

Please do not wait, call straight away. Even waiting a few hours can be too late. Please do not try and handle them yourself.

We are still operating 24/7 over the holiday season. In fact, this tends to be our busiest time of year. Although I mostly focus on bats and wombats these days, yesterday I attended 3 injured roos, 1 injured wallaby, 1 injured koala, 1 galah and this microbat.

This little guy was found exposed on a tree in daylight. Rescuer Nicole attended to assess the situation, and rescue the little one. He’s come into care here, covered in soot. It’s unclear where he slept (chimney, tractor exhaust pipe etc.) but clearly it was someone he shouldn’t have been. He’s been cleaned up as best as he can, time will tell if he’s done any damage to his lungs or from ingestion.

Another bat pup today, this time a Lesser Long Eared bat. Sadly mum didn’t make it, so the baby is now an orphan. 💔 He’ll be in care for several months, growing and learning to fly until he can be returned home. 🙂

What Halloween would be complete without some bats 🤣 🦇 This mum and baby were found on someone’s door at Beachport yesterday. Unfortunately for reasons that aren’t apparent, mum is not producing any milk for her tiny baby. She’s in good body condition, no signs of injuries etc. but obviously something has gone wrong for her to be found exposed in daylight. So mum’s getting some TLC while I have to feed her baby for her every few hours.

Maybelle, look how much she’s grown in a few months. 🥰 She has some gorgeous white toes as well, to make her stand out.

Does anyone have old towels they’d be willing to donate to wildlife rescuers? ☺️
