Performance Art Event, Treviso, Italy 🇮🇹

4.5.2022

Older people and formal carers are among the most relevant target groups of the European niCElife project. Nevertheless, the involvement of these groups is often not easy and technical project presentations are not interesting for these target groups. To meet this challenge, ISRAA organised a cultural event to disseminate the project results to these relevant target groups. In particular, ISRAA organised a concert which took place at the nursing home "Casa Albergo Salce".

On 15.3. 2022 the Care for Frail tool, developed in the framework of niCE-life, was presented to the national Working Group on Conceptual Solutions for Home Care. Care for Frail is part of a communication platform that enables secure electronic communication and data sharing between hospital and home health care. Given that the current processes for organizing and proving home care in the country are paper-only and involve a lot of travel with paper documents, the work group was impressed with the developed solution and will look for ways to make the developed solution available nationally.

International workshop

March 10th, 2022 - ZOOM platform

Partners of the NiCE-life INTERREG CE project jointly conducted a virtual international workshop on the topic „Use of the e-health platform and innovative care solutions in frail elderly“. Workshop was performed on March 10th, 2022 through ZOOM Webinar.
58 participants from 6 European countries had the opportunity to learn about the results of all pilot projects. Although virtual, the workshop enabled active participation of all participants.
The majority of present stakeholders from 7 countries was from the health system, followed with the social sector, local authorities and NGOs.
Participants gained new knowledge and information about pilot projects which are taking place in their environment and also about possible solutions from other environments. In addition to the 6 pilot projects, e-tool for adult »children«- carers of their disabled/frail parents was presented.
We also believe that the workshop has achieved its goal to show how innovative technologies can safely support frail elderly and increase quality of life of both - frail elderly and their carers from different areas of work.

How to Integrate Music into Your Senior Loved One’s Life
It is easier than ever to bring music into your parent’s life. Not only has technology made once forgotten media available at the tip of our fingers, live music is more abundant than ever. Here are several music activities for seniors to try out:
• Create a personalized playlist with songs you know your parents love. With the internet, you can find any song, from any era that you may be looking for.
• Take your loved one to a live concert in your area. Many communities offer monthly concerts, especially outdoor shows during the summer months. During the fall, winter, and spring, keep an eye on the schedule of your local school district. Bands, choirs and musical groups from schools often perform concerts for the public.
• Encourage your loved one to play an instrument. Studies have shown hobbies, like playing music, can help increase self-esteem and is therapeutic for seniors. Playing music can also help slow down heart rate and lower blood pressure.
• Have a sing-along to a song such as “When the Saints Go Marching In.” Sing-a-longs can also help promote a sense of community and allow people to interact while singing aloud.
• Introduce your parent to YouTube. Not only will they be able to find music they may have forgotten about, but they can watch live performances from their favorite artists in a bygone era.

10 Books Seniors Will Enjoy 👵🧓📚💜

1. The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 by John Bishop. Told in the style of 1940s melodramas, this book is an excellent mystery with a touch of comedy. It’s a great read-out-loud book, as you and your loved one will share lots of laughs.
2. I’m Too Young To Be Seventy by Judy Viorst. This is a wonderful collection of poems that are witty, wise and touching. It’s the perfect book for any older adults who don’t feel their age.
3. A Man Called Ove by Frederick Backman. This best-selling fiction novel features a cranky, bitter, 59-year-old widower, whom you can’t help falling in love with. It’s also a film, so when your parent is done reading, you can both watch the movie.
4. Disrupt Aging: A Bold New Path to Living Your Best Life at Every Stage by Jo Ann Jenkins. Written by AARP CEO, Jo Ann Jenkins, this book changes the conversation about age. Jenkins focuses on three areas: health, wealth and self, and inspires people to live each year to the fullest.
5. Ivy Malone Mystery series by Lorena McCourtney. This series of mysteries is popular for its likable characters, including detective Ivy Malone — who’s also in her senior years. Your loved one will enjoy reading one mystery after another.
6. Prime of Life by P.D. Bekendam. This book is for anyone who likes unexpected storylines. This one is about a doctor who leaves his luxurious career behind to become a janitor at a retirement community. It’s filled with humor and quirky characters.
7. Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand by Helen Simonson. Set in England’s countryside, this book features a retired British army officer and a Pakistani shopkeeper. They’re drawn together and overtime, fall in love. However, the challenges from culture and tradition, akin to Romeo and Juliet, make it a compelling read.
8. The Little Old Lady Who Broke All the Rules by Catharina Ingelman-Sundberg. This book is about a group of seniors who are fed up with early bedtimes and soft foods and decide to reclaim their independence by committing a robbery. It’s a comedy of errors that keeps you turning pages until the very end.
9. Rules for Aging: A Wry and Witty Guide to Life by Roger Rosenblatt. Commentator on PBS’s NewsHour, Roger Rosenblatt gives practical advice through a wry sense of humor for those wishing to live longer, fuller lives.
10. Call It a Gift by Valerie Hobbs. This novel is about two people who meet each other late in life and fall in love, even though they are an unlikely pair. It’s a heartwarming, sentimental read — your loved one may need tissues.
