10. apríla 1998 sa v Belfaste zrodila nádej. 🕊️
V tento deň bola podpísaná Veľkopiatková dohoda, čím sa ukončilo 30 rokov trvajúce obdobie násilia známe ako „The Troubles“. Bolo to víťazstvo politickej odvahy, vízie a ochoty robiť náročné kompromisy.
Mierový proces v Severnom Írsku bol možný vďaka pokrokovému vedeniu ostrova, írskej a britskej vláde, našim medzinárodným partnerom, občianskej spoločnosti a ľuďom, ktorí trvali na mierovej a demokratickej budúcnosti.
„Nesmieme nikdy zabudnúť na tých, ktorí zahynuli alebo utrpeli zranenia, ani na ich rodiny. Najlepším spôsobom, ako si ich uctiť, je však nový začiatok, v ktorom sa pevne zaviažeme k dosiahnutiu zmierenia, tolerancie a vzájomnej dôvery, ako aj k ochrane a presadzovaniu ľudských práv všetkých.“ Veľkopiatková dohoda, 1998

On 10 April 1998, the Belfast Good Friday Agreement was signed, bringing an end to three decades of conflict known as "The Troubles." It was a triumph of political leadership, vision, and the courage to make difficult compromises.
The Northern Ireland Peace Process was possible only through ground-breaking leadership from across the traditions of the island, from the Irish and British Governments, from our international partners, from civil society, and from people, all insisting on a peaceful, democratic future.
“We must never forget those who have died or been injured, and their families. But we can best honour them through a fresh start, in which we firmly dedicated ourselves to the achievement of reconciliation, tolerance, and mutual trust, and to the protection and vindication of the human rights of all.” Good Friday Agreement, 1998
