The Chairman of the Synodal Department for Church Relations with Society and the Media, Vladimir Romanovich Legoyda, announced that at the session of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, held on March 12, 2026, at the Patriarchal and Synodal Residence in the Danilov Monastery in Moscow, under the chairmanship of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, a decision was made to establish a Russian Orthodox parish in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates).

On the occasion of the Feast of the Adoration of the Holy Cross, His Eminence Archbishop Georgije of Michalovce-Košice visited the parish of Saints Cyril and Methodius in the village of Brezina, where, together with the secretary of the Diocese, Archpriest-Staurophor of the Ecumenical Throne, Father Vasilije Bardžak, who is also the elder of this parish, as well as with the archdeacon of the Diocese, Father Maroš Gopt, he served the Holy Liturgy of Saint Basil the Great.

On that occasion, Archbishop Georgije presented the parish in Brezina with a particle of the holy relics of our venerable and God-bearing father Simeon of Dajbaba, an ascetic of the Dajbaba Monastery in Montenegro (+1941), as a blessing from Metropolitan Joanikije of Montenegro and the Littoral.

It has been twenty-two years since the tragic days of March 17 and 18, 2004, when one of the worst pogroms in modern European history was committed against Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija. That wave of violence, which began after false accusations of the drowning of Albanian boys, escalated into organized abuse, demolition, arson and persecution of Serbs and the destruction of our spiritual and cultural heritage.

During the two days of violence, Serbian homes, schools, hospitals and churches were attacked in more than thirty places throughout Kosovo and Metohija. 9 people were killed, hundreds were injured, and more than 4,000 Serbs were forced to flee their homes. 35 Orthodox holy sites were destroyed and desecrated, including ancient monasteries and churches that had witnessed the faith and life of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija for centuries...
