LAW DO NOT PROTECT MILITARY WIFES, WE NEED MORE... LETS CHANGE A LAW. LETS CHANGE THE FORMER SPOUSES PROTECTION ACT MADE IN 1982. WE NEED TO GET THE LAW INTO 21ST CENTURY.
My name is Antonia Morgan. I am military spouse of thirteen and half years. My husband left me few weeks ago. The true reason is still unknown to me. I think it is truly unfair to military spouses that our husbands build their careers, while we are taking care of a household, children, have to move every two-three years, and year after year we are left with nothing. I was just planning to start my own career when my husband mentioned to me that he is leaving…. I have no place to go, or place to call home. I have nothing, but a promise from government that one day I will receive small percentage of my husband’s military retirement plan, which he is fighting to give me. I truly think that it is very unfair that we as military spouses are left only with military retirement. There is no OTHER law requirement, which requires our husbands to give us much more. I would like to approach you all with promise that together we could ASK for more. They usually move on very quickly and build new families. I believe if husband leaves a wife without reason, that the percentage of military retirement should be adjust (for example 20% increase if wife is no fault for the marriage to dissolve). Of course it would be just fair, if the wife were at fault than the husband will have decrease of his military retirement of 20%. Former Spouses Protection Act has many faults, but we together could try to make some changes to this law old as 1982. Many things have change since then and it is our time to take an action. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU ALL THINK. FORMER MILIRARY SPOUSE AND PROUDLY SERVED US AMRY FOR MANY YEARS JUST LIKE MY HUSBAND.
