No one will tear us apart.
The second mural, part of our collaboration with Kyiv-based artist duo WE BAD , was created by Lera Sxemka on the wall of a local government building in Kosice, Slovakia. Lera Sxemka and Maxim Pavlyuk are the two artists behind the urban art explorers WE BAD. Following the start of the war, Lera fled Ukraine to Slovakia for safety, while Maxim stayed behind. She is one of seven million people who have left Ukraine for neighbouring countries.
“We’ve always done everything together – and although we are divided by a thousand kilometers, it was crucial to us to continue creating together,” say the artists.
While Maxim created the first mural near Kyiv on the crumbling walls of what used to be a kindergarten (check out our previous posts), Lera left a message of hope in Slovakia. The mural in the center of Košice is a reminder that while the war is destroying and breaking up families and friends, people will come back to rebuild and thrive again.
“This project is for everyone who is far away from their families, homes and loved ones. [...] Ukraine will win, and these dark times will end,” say WE BAD.
