Fighting Hunger and Promoting Education: Federal Minister Alabali Radovan visits Sierra Leone with a Large Delegation
From Jan. 21 to 23, 2026, Reem Alabali Radovan, Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, visited Sierra Leone - one of the ten poorest countries in the world - accompanied by a 36-member delegation that included MPs Diana Herbstreuth and Jürgen Coße, as well as representatives from German Agro Action (Welthungerhilfe) and the World Food Programme. The focus was i.a. on the school nutrition program supported by her Ministry - part of the new international partnership for school nutrition and education (School Meals Accelerator). In addition, the Minister reviewed German-funded initiatives regarding broader food security, private sector development, youth employment, healthcare, and clean cooking. Ms. Alabali Radovan deepened discussions with Vice President Juldeh Jalloh regarding the country’s development priorities, the political reform agenda of this vibrant democracy, and girl’s and women’s rights - including the issue of female ge***al mutilation. She praised the role of President Julius Maada Bio as Chair of ECOWAS, the 12-member West African Economic Community, modeled on the EU. Through his extensive network and frequent travel across the ECOWAS region, Bio contributed significantly to establishing and maintaining regional stability
