*Kenema Residents Hail Presidential Townhall*

Residents of Kenema have described the just concluded Presidential Townhall on the 16th and 17th June 2025, in the eastern provincial headquarters as unprecedented participatory democracy in Sierra Leone.
Never before, they maintained, has almost a whole cabinet sat face-to-face with the electorate to respond to unchecked and unfiltered questions.
Although His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio could not attend due to unforseen circumstances, Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh, who ably represented him along with the host of cabinet ministers in attendance did justice to the issues that came up in the form of a barrage of questions from the audience on the activities of their respective institutions.
It was the Chief Minister that started the ball rolling in the stead of His Excellency, responding to questions sent in by the public on various online platforms established by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education. The questions posed by the Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor A. Bah, centered around Feed Salone, inclusivity, free quality education, child rights, Safe Motherhood Bill, the Tripartite Recommendations, Redistricting, and MPOX, among others.
The program later transitioned to a panel discussion with all the cabinet ministers coming up the stage to interface with the audience, something that has never happened in the history of the country.
President Julius Maada Bio continues to raise the democratic bar very high and also cement his reputation as the Father of Democracy in Sierra Leone. True to his pronouncement six years ago, inclusivity remains at the center of his administration with all facets of society involved in one way or the other in the governance of the state.
The people of Kenema expressed deep appreciation to the Ministry of Information and Civic Education for the democratic accountability that unfolded in front of their eyes and urged the government to constantly keep them abreast with the day-to-day running of the country to enable them make informed decisions.
The Presidential Townhall was preceded by quiz and debate competitions for secondary schools on the 16th of June, commemorating the Day of the African Child.

*FG GOLD CALL FOR TWO DAYS MEDIA DAY AND ENGAGEMENT WITH COMMUNITY STAKEHOLDERS*

Regarding the fake headline newspaper publication accusing FG GOLD MINING of Mordred Days slavery, the management has an interest and call for Media Day engagement at their site for journalists to get access to visit all their site areas and have one-on-one media engagement with communities youths and stakeholders to get the right information.

A delegation from the Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security, where attendance together with other government departments and agencies, this invitation is to let media, press, and government officials have access to do findings and send out correct information to the public and the government.

*Day 1*
FG GOLD received journalists from Freetown with their company bus to the mining site at *BAOMAHUN BO DISTRICT*, Upon arrival, the company manager made an introduction and presented all the development they had done for the communities since day one.

*Day 2*
FG GOLD took journalists and government officials across all their site locations and different community projects they have done, after the visitation, FG GOLD asked journalists to have media engagement one-on-one with community youths and stakeholders to do more findings.

*FINDINGS BY JOURNALISTS*

✅FG GOLD has not yet done any single mining at the site. They are still in the construction process.

✅ The company has employed three hundred and three staffs of which 80% percent are Sierra Leonean and 30% percent are experts who have limited time to stay.

✅The management of FG GOLD has trained eighty-five youths across the communities to be professional drivers, of which sixty percent are female, free of charge with a certificate, free food, and free driving license for all.

✅FG GOLD has also trained other youths in the community to be motto machinic

✅FG GOLD has rebuilt the main town hospital for the community people

✅The management of FG GOLD has also built schools and given learning materials and foodstuff support in these schools and other surrounding schools to support the school feeding program by the government.

✅FG GOLD is currently building a community center for the people and also doing monthly one-to-one community engagement to build good relationships with the people.

✅ from the community, people outside the mines said they are happy to have FG GOLD MINING in their town as they are the best company that has brought so much development for them and also empowered the youths.

FG GOLD happens to be the first mining company that is doing so much development to their community people even before digging anything from the group. FG GOLD is here to stay and develop Sierra Leone as a whole, according to Management.

*MINISTER OF LABOUR LEADS A DELEGATION TO SIERRA RUTILE*

On Tuesday, 3rd December 2023, the Minister of Employment Labour and Social Security led a delegation to Sierra Rutile to listen to and settle workers' concerns regarding end-of-service benefits and other related issues by the workers; all sections of the employees have almost the same concerns, which are as follows.

Since the transition status from the old management of Sierra Rutile to the new management which Leone Oil has taken full control of Sierra Rutile mines, many issues were raised by the employees which urged the Minister to do an intervention to salvage the Suitation on the ground, the minister of Labour Hon. Mohamed Rahman Swaray Lead a delegation from his ministry to Sierra Rutile to settle issues raised by workers.

👉 regarding the transition of ownership of management, the employees are calling for an end of Service of benefit even if they want to continue and maintain their jobs.

👉equivalent of dollar rate to their salary and also some junior staff have more salary than senior staff.

👉scholarship for their children has been delayed.

👉experts have been taking into the mines such as carpenters, etc.

👉Female workers are calling for the implementation of the thirty percent (30%) of women to be employed.

The Minister thanked Sierra Rutile employees for their concerns and pointed out that the President is very much concerned about welcoming and encouraging local and international investors to help create jobs for Sierra Leonean youths and, at the same time, give decent jobs for Sierra Leoneans.

The acting Labour commissioner interprets the 2023 Labour Law Act to both the employees and the employers which says *"END OF SERVICE BENEFIT WILL ONLY PAY TO EMPLOYEE AT THE END OF HIS/HER WORK SERVICE, WETHER THE EMPLOYEE RESIGN OR THE CONTRACT IS TERMINATED"*

Labour Minister, encourages the Management of LEONE OIL to recruit more women to fill the gap of the thirty percent given to them by the President.

In conclusion, the CEO of LEONE OIL assured the Minister to give a scholarship to the employees plus three weeks' allowance and also ask whenever any employee resigns, HE/SHE will be paid at the end of Service fully.

The engagement meeting ended up with a better understanding by the Leone Oil management and the employees.

*MINISTRY OF LABOUR LEAD TO SIGN A JOINT COMMUNIQUE BETWEEN ALL TERRAIN SERVICE SL LTD (ATS) AND ATS - MARAMPA MINES LTD (MML) PROJECT EMPLOYEES*

On Thursday, 28th November 2024, the Ministry of Employment, Labour, and Social Security held an engagement meeting with ATS management and employees to review the conditions of service of workers.

All department heads of ATS employees pointed out their concerns regarding the conditions of Service of workers.

The Management of ATS employers received and endorsed all related issues outlined by the workers at the meeting with pleasure, the Management encourages workers to take their jobs seriously to give good results to their working partners, ATS is the best Service company in the world and workers should put effort to keep the company standard and integrity level high.

The country director of ATS Mr.BIJI said that even due salary has been paid for November 2024, he will ensure that employees receive half a bag of rice (25kg) at the end of November, in addition, from December 2024 onwards all workers will start to receiving one full bag of rice (50 Kg).

The delegation from the Ministry of Labour, who served as the mediator in the meeting, thanked the Management of ATS for their understanding to improved the conditions of Service of their workers.

The Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Hon. Mohamed Rahman Swaray, extended his regular unannounced spot checks today, 3rd September 2024, at *ODHAV MULTI INDUSTRIES SL LTD ( OMI )*.

This visit is significant to President Bio's Commitment to decent jobs for all Sierra Leoneans and improving the human capital development as a whole.

The minister Led a team of a delegation from his ministry to engage the O.M.I management and Sierra Leonean employees regarding their working conditions of service, O.M.I is a steal industrial manufacturing operating company that has been from 2018 till date with no better condition of service of Sierra Leoneans employees as per engagement with Sierra Leoneans employees, key finding where made by Sierra Leoneans workers in the factory.

✅ No complete supply of safety kit
✅No good medical facility for Sierra Leonean workers
✅The Sierra Leonean employees work 12 hours six days a week with no overtime payment
✅ Races discrimination
✅Intemidation from foreign employees to Sierra Leoneans
✅ This factory also operates with 50 percent foreign expert employees and 50 percent local Sierra Leonean employees

The minister lastly engages the employers and management team of O.M.I., asking them to reform their operating system according to the Labour Laws of Sierra Leone. Adding to that, under his watch as Labour minister, such things are unacceptable, and they should follow due procedure with the Labour Laws.

President Maada is very determined and curious to see the transformation of all Sierra Leoneans and also ready with Open doors to welcome every investor, company, and factory to come and operate in Sierra Leone and should be within the Labour Laws.

Lastly, he assigns some staff from the Labour Ministry to monitor and help the employers correct all heroes against the Labour Laws.
