I am truly honored to have been chosen by the All Africa Students Union (AASU), the umbrella organization for students across Africa, to represent the voices of students and youth at two important gatherings: the Youth Summit and the first Africa Skills Week in Accra, Ghana.

These events will bring together leaders, policymakers, educators, and innovators from all over the continent to address critical issues related to youth empowerment, skills development, and employment in Africa. In my role as a representative, I will have the chance to advocate for the priorities of students and youth, participate in meaningful discussions, and work together on solutions to ensure that young Africans possess the skills needed for the future.

This is a thrilling opportunity for our generation, and I am eager to play an active role in shaping the future of education and employment for young people across the continent.

On the 22nd of August 2024, a cross-section of my Cabinet met with the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone in a bid to promote the welfare of students with an improved learning environment for every Sierra Leonean student. While these concerns were put forward, the Union appreciated the President for his Free Quality Education initiative, congratulated him as UN Security Council President for the month of August and other recommendable areas of achievement.

I am extremely delighted that the President has made a commitment to NUSS and to strengthen our educational system in this country whilst acknowledging students as the hope of our nation, and therefore, his government should prepare us for the future.

I’m thankful for this opportunity to meet with HE and look forward to seeing more sustainable development in our educational system. Many thanks to the Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie. She is a gem and an inspiration to us.

*NUSS MEETS WITH THE ADMINISTRATION AND STUDENTS OF AMTA MEDICAL COLLEGE IN FREETOWN*

The leadership of the National Union of Sierra Leone Students under President Mohamed Rex Bhonapha had an interactive session with the students and administration of AMTA Medical College, situated at No. 15c Black Hall Road, Freetown.

AMATA Medical College is a newly accredited higher-learning institution that was established in 2021 by a goodwill Sierra Leonean who is enthusiastic about contributing to the human capital development of the country. Since its foundation, the Institution continues to experience huge demand in its application process; the admission rate continues to spike yearly. This underscores the quality of educational programs the Institution provides and how it remains committed to its vision of contributing to the educational fabric of this nation.

Amidst the fanfare and tumultuous welcome from the students, the proprietor of the institution expressed his respect for the President in honoring such an invitation. The successes of the institution are many, as well as the kickbacks it faces. The students were sincere in listing the existing problems, bearing in mind that the institution is in its Imango stage, thus making challenges rift.

The President of NUSS, Mr. Mohamed Rex Bhonapha, in his opening speech, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the proprietor of AMTA Medical College for investing in the youths of this country which supports human capital development. He single-handedly spent huge resources in establishing such an institution of learning, which is a portrayal of not only his philanthropist nomenclature but also his determination to address the challenges Sierra Leone faces as a country.

The President made it vividly clear that he came to power on the mantra of serving the best interest of students of this nation; making it imperative to channel their concerns to the authorities that are charged with the responsibility of looking into them. He posited that his leadership model is firmly rooted in dialogue rather than violence. He will expeditiously engage the administration on all the concerns raised in the engagement and personally know ‘no rest’ until the majority if not all of the genuine concerns raised by the students are amicably addressed.

The President left with the satisfaction that the students of the Institution are committed to the primal objective of acquiring quality knowledge and certification. With such an outright display of intellectualism and engagement, the future of this nation is assured with a godly signature.
