Our amazing team just concluded a 5-day STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) training at the Country Lodge Hotel in Freetown in five mandatory modules: Personal Survival; Techniques(PST); Basic Fire Fighting (BFF); Elementary First Aid (EFA); Personal Safety and Social Responsibility(PSSR); Proficiency in Security Awareness. The training was co-organized by the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA) and the Regional Maritime University (RMU) team from Ghana.

A total of 37 people drawn from Mercy Ships (23), National Minerals Agency (1) Conex Petroleum Ltd. (1) Stewards (2) SLMA's Maritime Safety and Security staff (7) participated in the training which was delivered through both practical and theoretical sessions.

โ€œThis training is essential for building the capacity of maritime professionals and ensuring safety at sea,โ€ said Mr. Emmanuel Pius Richards, Director of Research, Maritime Education and Training. โ€œSLMA remains committed to domesticating STCW courses in Sierra Leone through our partnership with RMU, so that our seafarers and maritime workers can obtain internationally recognized certifications locally, reducing costs and enhancing opportunities.โ€

Captain Joshua Addo, Team Lead from RMU, stated that the expectation is for participants to apply the knowledge gained during the training by strictly adhering to safety protocols and prioritizing established safety standards.
