In a significant move to strengthen the fight against and in , the Officer-in-Charge of the IOM Sierra Leone, Dr. Pauline Macharia, has officially handed over a suite of office and audio-visual equipment to the Anti-Trafficking In Persons Task Force Secretariat-Sierra Leone.

The symbolic handover ceremony took place today, Wednesday March 18, 2026 at the IOM office in . Among Items donated to ATIP are a full multimedia package including Tripod Screen Projector, Teleprompter, Canon Camera, Wireless Microphone, DJI Mini 4 Pro Drone and Editing software; as well as office equipment such as computers, printers, and
High Speed Router.

According to ATIP Executive Director, Dehunge Shiaka JP, this support would bolster the Agency's efforts in data management, inter-agency coordination and public awareness campaigns especially for counter-trafficking video content creation and use in community outreaches and media engagements. The IOM donation was supported by the Government of Sweden.se.

A two-day intensive training to kick-start a baseline Knowledge, Attitude and Practice ( ) assessment on the Drivers, Risks and Perceptions of and in will conclude today, Saturday, December 20, at the Wusum Hotel in Makeni.

The training brings together about 40 field officers from the Anti-Trafficking In Persons Task Force Secretariat-Sierra Leone (ATIP), the Ministry of Social Welfare Government of Sierra Leone (MOSW), the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA), Statistics SierraLeone, and the IOM Sierra Leone.

After the training, these field officers, now with enhanced skills, will conduct and surveys in six hotspot districts across the country, including the Western Urban and Rural Districts.

This initiative is part of a project implemented by IOM and supported by the Government of Sweden.se.

On Tuesday December 9, 2025 representatives of the Anti-Trafficking In Persons Task Force Secretariat-Sierra Leone met and updated the new head of the Sierra Leone Police Force Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU), CSP Michael J. K. Laggah, with the aim of forging a good and collaborative working relationship with the Unit moving forward. During the meeting a framework cooperation was agreed for the establishment of a temporary Protection Facility where identified , including adult male , are hosted during legally mandated interview period, as part of investigation process by law enforcement officers. Victim interview is a key component of trafficking prosecution.

The Anti-Trafficking In Persons Task Force Secretariat-Sierra Leone has today released its 2025 Situation of Human Trafficking in Sierra Leone Report, ahead of the official presentation to the Honourable Minister of Social Welfare. This is the first annual report on human trafficking in Sierra Leone since the ATIP Agency started operations in 2023.

Among other things, the report sheds light on trafficking trends and identifies the sectors, communities and demographics mostly affected. This analytical report also touches on trafficking root causes, and provides information on progress recorded and challenges faced in combating this scourge in the country covering the period April 2024 to March 2025.
