Question: Is it true that you have to be with many s*x partners to to get HIV?

Answer: That is not true. Even one s*x partner can infect you with HIV during s*x if he/she is infected. But it is also true that you have greater chance of getting infected when you have s*x with many partners without using a condom.

Question: How do i know if i am at risk of getting HIV?

Answer: Everybody is at risk of getting HIV. Here is a self-test to help you find out if you are personally at risk:
(a) Do i know the HIV status of my s*x partner?
(b) Does my current s*xual partner have more than one s*x partner?
(c) Do i have more than one s*x partner?
(d) Do i use condom sometimes or not at all?
(e) Have i ever received an injection when i am not sure if the syringe and needle were new or have been properly cleaned?
(f) Have i ever shared a tooth brush, razor blades or any skin piercing instrument?

If you answered YES to one or more of these questions, it means that you have been exposed. The more YES you have, the more chances of you getting HIV. You are therefore advised to go for an HIV TEST.

Question: Why is HIV counseling and testing important?

Answer: UNAIDS and WHO recommended that HIV counseling and testing helps you to know about your HIV status, which is a critical part of HIV prevention.

More than 90% of people do not know their HIV status. HIV counseling and testing have proven to be an effective public health strategy as they result in reduced risky behaviors and increased condom use.

Fortune and fame cannot prevent you from HIV... only you can.

Question: Why are early detection and treatment of s*xually transmitted infections (STIs) important?

Answer: Early and effective treatment of STIs decreases the amount of HIV in ge***al secretions and reduces the risk of its spread to other s*xual partners. Early treatment also reduces the chance of contracting HIV.

23/01/2017

Question: Does the presence of other s*xually transmitted infections (STIs) facilitate HIV transmission?

Answer: Yes, many s*xually transmitted infections (STIs) increase the risk of acquiring HIV infection as well as the chances of transmitting it to others. For example, the risk of infection increases by as much as 50 to 300 times per each s*xual contact with a person who has a ge***al ulcer. It is important to keep in mind that HIV transmission is more likely to occur in combination with other s*xually transmitted infections for many reasons:

(a) HIV can easily pass through breaks and lacerations in the skin and mucous membranes caused by ge***al ulcers.

(b) Large amount of HIV are found in ulcers and ge***al fluids (semen secretion from the cervix) of people with infections such as gonorrhea, ge***al herpes, syphilis and chancroid.
