PUBLIC RELEASE STATEMENT

CLARION CALL FOR AN END TO THREAT TO KIDNAP CUBA’S LEADERS

The New African Charter International (NACI) vehemently condemns the United States government for trying to import Venezuelan-styled terrorism into Cuba. Since its inception in January 2026, the Trump administration in Washington has repeatedly threatened to intervene in Cuba militarily, to bomb and destroy public infrastructures built through the sweat of the Cuban people and to implement regime change in that country.

Like Iran, Syria, Iraq, Serbia, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Russia, China and Africa, Cuba is being the target of undue pressure by succeeding administrations in Washington. By signing Presidential executive order on May 1, 2026 placing himself above international law with the right to take over Cuba, the action of President Donald Trump can be seen as nothing but a ploy to abduct and indict on bogus charges one of Cuba’s revolutionary heroes, Raúl Castro, in ways similar to the criminal terrorism unleashed on Venezuela on 3rd January, 2016 resulting into the kidnapping and imprisonment of Venezuela’s leader Nicolás Maduro and National Assembly member Cilia Flores.

Since the dawn of the great 1959 revolution in Cuba, the US has unleashed one genocidal attack after another on the Cuban people. The list of terrorism attacks, attempted high profile political assassinations, bombings, sabotage, chemical germ warfare, economic war and ill-intentioned lies is long and sordid. Yet the Cuban people have not surrendered, and are not ready to give up their fight to protect and defend national independence, sovereignty or homeland dignity.

Cuba is Cuba; and there are no traitors, betrayals or sell-outs in Cuba. Touch Cuba, you touch Africa and the progressive world. NACI strongly condemns the US government’s relentless and systematic attacks against Cuba, its deliberate and systematic obstruction of economic and commercial activities, and its committing of crimes against humanity and war crimes against Cuba. We call on the African Union (AU) to stand unequivocally and unconditionally with the people of Cuba in their struggle against these imperialist onslaughts. The AU must not be deceived by the Trump administration’s carefully choreographed gestures designed to demonise Cuba’s revolutionary leaders and misrepresent the Caribbean nation.

What is wrong if Cuba decides to import medicines and medical instruments, and that this should be regarded as a threat to US national security? What has Cuba done to warrant deprivation of fuel supply, electricity-thus cutting off power to hospitals, including infant incubators, and making it extremely difficult to get treatment for children with cancer? What perverted pleasures the neo-cons in Washington can take by obstructing the supply of fuel for ambulances to transport patients and diesel for trucks that carry food across Cuba? How does imposing sanctions on officials and blocking commercial activities with Cuba make America great again? We demand answers to these and more pertinent questions about the US aggression and hostile behaviours towards Cuba and the Cuban people.

Since the revolution in 1959 Cuba has kicked out the mafia gangs and other foreign criminal adventurers out of that country. The Trump administration in Washington sees the US military intervention with the aim of implementing regime change in Havana as the best way to clear the path for recolonising Cuba. President Trump himself has intimated the international public that the US will intervene militarily in Cuba, overthrow the Cuban government, kill or kidnap Cuban leaders and baptise his Foreign Affairs Minister Marco Rubio, to lead the Caribbean nation as President and Commander-In-Chief. If the people of the United States could refuse to bow down to a king, why must the global community buy President Trump’s political miasma-to impose rogues and criminals on Cuba?

Cuba is an impoverished country with few natural resources but with the resourcefulness of its people and solidarity from friends it has made across the globe community, it has made giant strides in providing for human needs where the richest country in the history of the world falls miserably short. Cuba has wiped off illiteracy, which the United States has failed to do. Cuba transformed a system of healthcare for the rich before the revolution to a system of healthcare that equals to or surpasses most other countries. Cuba overcame homelessness, which today plagues the United States. Cuba has succeeded in tackling the scourge of systemic racism, which today plagues and corrupts the US.

With its offer of free medical education to students from Africa and even from the USA, Cuba has produced doctors that serve some of the most oppressed peoples around the world, including besieged Palestinians, and similarly shares its own physicians and health care workers where they are most needed through the Henry Reeves Brigade.

The New African Charter International (NACI) joins other peace and freedom-loving individuals and organizations in demanding:

1. An immediate end to the more than sixty (60) years economic and financial blockade, including the latest fuel blockade in all its forms;

2. An immediate end to the threats to invade Cuba with guarantees against such an act of terrorism against a sovereign independent state;

3. An immediate end to threats to kidnap Cuba’s revolutionary leaders;

4. Cessation of the malicious propaganda that denies Cuba’s rights to development and blames that country’s government for the effects of the criminal blockade;

5. Immediate withdrawal of the U.S. military from Cuba’s territory of Guantanamo Bay; and,

6. Full respect for the Cuban people’s right to self-determination, sovereignty and homeland dignity.

Long live Cuba-Africa solidarity!

The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Republic of Sierra Leone, Norma Sánchez Águila, held a productive meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament of Sierra Leone, the Honorable Mr. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, during which they discussed issues of bilateral and international interest.

During the exchange, the Cuban diplomat provided a detailed update on the complex situation Cuba is facing, marked by the intensification of the blockade imposed by the United States. In particular, she referred to the impact of recent measures, including provisions associated with the administration of President Donald Trump, which provide for the imposition of sanctions on third countries that attempt to sell or supply oil to the island, and the frequent threats of military intervention using as a pretext the recent and false accusations made against Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution.

For his part, President Segepoh Thomas highlighted the historic ties of friendship and cooperation that unite both countries, while reiterating Sierra Leone’s firm support for Cuba in multilateral forums, including the UN General Assembly and the African Union, and expressing his appreciation for the resilience of the Cuban people in the face of adversity.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez today expressed his rejection of statements of support by Chilean President José Antonio Kast for a military aggression against the Caribbean island.

"It is not surprising that President Kast speaks of dictatorships in Latin America and the Caribbean, since he knows them very well, having supported the one that violently usurped power and governed his country for almost twenty years, causing deaths, disappearances and much harm to the Chilean people," the foreign minister expressed on the social network X.

"As a known Pinochet supporter, his statements reflect a total disregard for International Law and the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace," he added.

He also stressed that supporting military aggression against Cuba is a dangerous and confrontational attitude that stems from shameful subordination to imperial dictates, and that the island poses no threat to the national security of the United States or any other nation.

"We are a country that will always advocate for respect and peace among nations, but will not accept impositions of any kind," he reiterated.

He also clarified that he knows that Kast's statements reflect only his interests and not the opinion of the Chilean people, to whom we are united by deep ties of friendship and solidarity.
