A leading indigenous Sierra Leonean roads construction company, Pavi Fort-Al Associates (SL) Limited, is making Sierra Leone proud in the West Africa Sub-region by undertaking quality roads construction work in countries like Guinea (Conakry), Liberia, The Gambia and now Nigeria.

Over the weekend, Pavi Fort The Gambia (an associate of Pavi Fort-Al Associates (SL) Limited) received resounding accolades from the President of The Gambia, His Excellency Adama Barrow and other Gambian authorities including the Minister of Transport, Works and Infrastructure and the head of the National Roads Authority for the quality of work they have done in the Brufut community.

Pavi Fort The Gambia in 2022 bid for and won Lot 2 of the 50km urban roads project funded by OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) with headquarters in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Pavi Fort has almost successfully completed Lot 2 of the project which is 27.8 km in Brufut town near the city of Serrekunda.

After inaugurating the 50km urban roads on Saturday, 5th September 2026, President Adama Barrow addressed a mammoth gathering in Brufut town and openly praised Pavi Fort The Gambia for a job well done.

He said he was impressed with the professionalism exhibited by the company and promised to continue to have confidence in the company’s ability to do more construction work in The Gambia.

The Project Director, Ing. Joseph Raymond Sandy confirmed that 97.5% of the construction work has been completed. He added that they were now installing street lights and doing road signs.

Ing. Joseph Sandy told newsmen in Brufut that he was very pleased with the quality of work done by Pavi Fort The Gambia.

Mr. Alimu Barrie, the Chairman and CEO of Pavi Fort, praised His Excellency President Adama Barrow, the Government and People of The Gambia and the OIC leadership for the confidence reposed in his company to undertake such a major roads construction project in The Gambia.

Mr. Barrie thanked his staff for the professionalism they exhibited throughout the implementation of the project.

The head of the National Roads Authority in The Gambia praised Pavi Fort The Gambia for a job well done in the town of Brufut.

Community leaders and members of Brufut community thanked Mr. Alimu Barrie and his team in The Gambia for transforming their community into a bustling town with a good road network, bright street lights and an excellent drainage system.

Meanwhile, Pavi Fort The Gambia, based on their excellent performance in Brufut town, have been awarded another 100km of roads in the rural area of The Gambia.

Pavi Fort Al Associates are expected to sign another major contract in the Federal Republic of Nigeria this week.

The inauguration ceremony of the 50km urban roads project in The Gambia was witnessed by the Sierra Leone High Commissioner to The Gambia Madam Martha Kanagbo and the Director General of the Sierra Leone Roads Authority, the young and energetic Ing. Alfred Jalil Momodu.

SLPP Member of Parliament for Pujehun district and the former Speaker of ECOWAS Parliament, Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis, was yesterday informed by the US Embassy in Freetown that he does not qualify for a visa to travel to the United States of America even though he is a high-profile regular visitor to that country.
Hon. Sidie Tunis was informed that in 2023, a Note Verbale from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Freetown was sent to the US Embassy in Freetown, requesting for a visa for him and his Executive Assistant, Chabatan Bah, to enable them travel to United States of America.
The former ECOWAS Speaker and current ruling party MP told the Global Times yesterday that he had never met, employed or worked with that person, both in his capacity as the Leader of Government Business and as Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament. “I have never employed anyone for that role…In fact, this name is strange to me…I am hearing this name for the first time…I am even wondering whether this so-called Executive Assistant is a male or a female…I don’t know this person”, Hon. Sidie Tunis emphasized.
The SLPP flag bearer aspirant and a prominent ruling party lawmaker has, requested the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, to urgently launch a thorough investigation to determine who actually facilitated this visa fraud using his name.
Sources confirmed that the said Chabatan Bah was issued with the US visa and they did travel to the United States of America but never returned to Sierra Leone.
A spokesman for the US Embassy in Freetown yesterday declined to comment on the matter saying, “We do not comment on individual visa applications”.
Hon. Sidie Tunis was on the official Government of Sierra Leone delegation list, scheduled to travel to New York for the UN General Assembly this month.
So far, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Freetown has not commented on the matter up until press time last night.
Investigations continue.

The High Court of Sierra Leone, presided over by Justice Adrian Fischer, yesterday issued an interim injunction restraining former executive members of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) from holding themselves out as executive members of the party or performing functions reserved for its executive.
The order, which varies an earlier injunction granted on August 27, 2026 prevents all executive members who formerly served under the APC’s 2022 Constitution from convening or attending executive meetings, carrying out activities synonymous with executive positions, or taking part in or supervising the affairs of the APC party in their capacity as executive members.
Justice Fischer also ordered that the first and second defendants, identified as National Chairman Alhaji Osman Foday Yansaneh and National Secretary-General Lawyer Lansana Dumbuya, respectively, are restrained from carrying out activities associated with their respective offices or participating in the day-to-day running and supervision of the affairs of the APC, except for functions specifically permitted under the court’s order.
The court, however, exempt the two officials from certain functions necessary to ensure the continued operations of the party and the payment of its workers.
Justice Fischer explained that the National Chairman and National Secretary-General, as signatories to the party’s bank accounts, may continue to sign payment cheques for executive staff and contractors whose payments have been approved by the secretariat.
He said this was necessary to ensure that people who have worked, or are currently working, for the party receive their salaries without delay.
The court also permitted the officials to provide relevant information and administrative support to the election management bodies to facilitate the conduct of the district-level elections within the stipulated timeframe.
Under the order, the APC National Secretariat shall continue to operate without the officials restrained by the injunction holding themselves out as executive members. The secretariat will be assisted by three members of the Council of Elders in carrying out its functions.
Justice Fischer further ordered that the APC’s district-level elections must be completed within 21 days from the date of the order. Any complaints arising from the elections are also to be resolved within that period by the party’s internal bodies responsible for adjudicating such disputes.
The plaintiffs have been ordered to serve copies of the court order and all other applications filed before the court on the fourth defendant forthwith.
The defendants have until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2026, to file their responses to the originating notice of motion.
Justice Fischer emphasised that the ruling is purely interim and does not constitute a final determination of the matter.
He warned that any person who disobeys the order could be found guilty of contempt of court and may face imprisonment, a fine, or seizure of assets.
The matter has been adjourned to Monday, October 19, 2026, for an inter-parties hearing, with the court indicating the need for a speedy conclusion of the proceedings.

The Ministry of National Defense and Armed Forces of Liberia on Thursday hosted the closing ceremony of Operation Anouanze IV at the Freeport of Monrovia, marking the successful conclusion of the regional maritime security exercise.
The ceremony was attended by Mr. Mohamed Kenewui Konneh, ECOWAS Resident Representative to Liberia, and Colonel John Tucker, Defence Attaché at the Sierra Leone Embassy in Liberia, alongside senior military officials and representatives of participating countries.
In his remarks, Mr. Konneh commended personnel who participated in Operation Anouanze IV, noting that the exercise demonstrated the effectiveness of ECOWAS’ vision for coordinated regional maritime operations.
He said the operation demonstrated that West African navies can operate alongside one another, share information in real time, and respond effectively to maritime security threats under a coordinated command structure.
Mr. Konneh described the participating personnel as a credible, professional and interoperable force capable of addressing the maritime security challenges facing the region. He reaffirmed ECOWAS’ commitment to strengthening maritime domain awareness, joint training, equipment, intelligence-sharing and operational coordination among Member States.
He also called on Member States to sustain the political will demonstrated during the exercise, maintain interoperability among their naval forces, and deepen cooperation through the Multinational Maritime Coordination Centres and the broader Gulf of Guinea maritime security architecture.
He stressed that the sea is not only a shared resource and source of livelihood but also a shared responsibility requiring collective regional action.
The Liberian Coast Guard (LCG) served as Liberia’s host maritime component, with its Commander designated as Operational Commander for the Liberian phase of the exercise.
From August 24 to 26, 2026, joint maritime patrols were conducted within Liberia’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), with Liberian Coast Guard personnel embarked aboard naval vessels from Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire.
Personnel from Liberia, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Sierra Leone and Guinea participated in the exercise, demonstrating a collective commitment to protecting territorial waters and maritime resources while strengthening regional security cooperation.
Other speakers at the ceremony highlighted the importance of regular joint maritime exercises in preventing and responding to illicit activities at sea, including illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, piracy and arms trafficking.
Operation Anouanze IV underscores Liberia’s continued commitment, in collaboration with ECOWAS and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), to promoting a safe, secure and prosperous maritime environment across the Gulf of Guinea.

Two barristers accused of defrauding businessman Bockarie Conteh of US$114,000 in connection with three Toyota 4Runner vehicles have been committed to stand trial before the High Court after Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah rejected their no-case submission.
Despite the commitment, both lawyers were granted bail of NLe5 million each, with stringent surety conditions, as the case proceeds to full trial.
The accused, 34-year-old Maurice Jenner Mohamed Seisay and 35-year-old John Mans, are facing charges of conspiracy to defraud, contrary to the law, and obtaining money by false pretenses through forged documents, contrary to Section 52. According to the particulars of the allegations, between November 1 and 30, 2023, at Harding Sesay and Partners Law Firm, No. 49 Dundas Street, Freetown, the accused allegedly conspired with unknown persons to defraud Conteh.
The second count states that during the same period and at the same location, the accused obtained three Toyota 4Runner vehicles valued at US$114,000, belonging to Conteh, by falsely representing that payment would be made within 30 working days, knowing this to be untrue. When the charges were read and explained, no plea was taken as the matter was before the court for committal proceedings.
Representing the State, Yusuf Isaac Sesay argued for the case to proceed, while J.M. Gengo and M.C. Nicol Wilson appeared for the defense.
After the prosecution closed its case, the defense counsel submitted that the accused had no case to answer, requesting the court to discharge them. The prosecution opposed this, asserting that the evidence was sufficient to require the accused to face trial in the High Court.
In his ruling, Magistrate Jah carefully considered the evidence, the no-case submission, responses from both sides, and relevant legal authorities. He explained that at the committal stage, his role was not to conduct a full trial or determine guilt or innocence but to assess whether there was enough evidence to warrant a trial before the High Court.
Citing Section 113(2)(b) of the Criminal Procedure Act, Act No. 8 of 2024, the Magistrate stated that a defendant should be committed for trial if the evidence is sufficient. He also outlined circumstances under which a no-case submission could succeed, such as when the evidence fails to prove an essential element of the offense, is too weak to support the allegations, or is unreliable.
After reviewing the evidence, Magistrate Jah concluded that the prosecution had established a case that required an answer from the accused. “There is a case for the defendant to answer,” he ruled, refusing the no-case submission and committing the accused to the High Court for trial.
Despite the commitment, Magistrate Jah granted both defendants bail under substantial financial and surety conditions. The first defendant was admitted to bail in the sum of NLe5 million, with one surety resident in Sierra Leone.
The second defendant received bail in the same amount, with two sureties—one resident in Sierra Leone and another who owns property of sufficient value in the country, subject to verification and court approval.
This ruling effectively concludes the preliminary proceedings, and the case now moves to the High Court, where the allegations will be fully examined and tested. The Magistrate emphasized that the decision to commit the accused does not imply guilt; both barristers remain entitled to defend themselves during the subsequent trial.

The Financial Times has announced the 13th edition of its flagship Africa Summit, taking place on 21-22 October 2026 at The Landmark, London.
Under the theme “Mobilising Growth in a New Global Order,” the summit will convene African Heads of State, policymakers, chief executives, investors and next-generation entrepreneurs to examine how the continent can sustain its growth trajectory amid shifting trade alliances, technological change and a reordering of global power.
