Prevention 9: Have conversations with your children about being safe online. The key is to supervise your child’s internet activity and help them become a responsible user. By involving your children in the discussion about rights, responsibilities, privacy, and personal safety, not only will they be more likely to follow your family’s rules, you will also be helping them develop their own knowledge and personal standards of internet safety. Stress to your children that the rules are to protect them, not to control them.

Stakeholder Focus Group Discussions

Enough Abuse Sierra Leone (EA-SL) is engaging key stakeholders through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) to strengthen our work on child sexual abuse prevention, survivor healing, and access to justice.

The discussions bring together stakeholders from communities, schools, parents, teachers, traditional and religious leadership, law enforcement, service providers, civil society, and other relevant actors to understand the realities children and survivors face and identify practical solutions.

The FGDs are helping us explore:

- Prevention of child sexual abuse and exploitation
- Safe reporting and referral pathways
- Survivor-centred healing and psychosocial support
- Access to justice and accountability
- Child safeguarding in schools and communities
- Gaps in existing protection systems
- Community-led solutions and advocacy priorities

Our approach is simple: listen, learn, act, and strengthen systems that keep children safe.

Together, we can build safer schools, safer communities, stronger safeguarding systems, and a Sierra Leone where every child is protected from abuse.

🚨 A SCHOOL SAFE CLUB IS MORE THAN A CLUB — IT IS A CHILD PROTECTION SYSTEM.

What if every child knew how to recognize abuse, where to report it, who would listen, and where to get help?

That is the vision behind the Enough Abuse School Safe Club 🇸🇱.

Our model connects prevention + safeguarding + child participation + reporting + referral + survivor-centred support + community accountability.

1. PREVENTION — Equip children with knowledge, confidence and life-saving safety skills.
2. SAFEGUARDING — Build safer schools with responsible adults, policies and protective systems.
3. CHILD PARTICIPATION— Give children a meaningful voice in creating safer schools.
4. REPORTING— Make it safe for children to speak up and report concerns.
5. REFERRAL — Connect children to the right child protection, health, psychosocial and justice services.
6. SURVIVOR-CENTRED SUPPORT — Respond with dignity, confidentiality, care and respect.
7. COMMUNITY ACCOUNTABILITY — Parents, teachers, leaders and communities must work together to protect every child.

THE PATHWAY IS SIMPLE:

Child → Safe Club Ambassador → Trusted Adult/Safeguarding Focal Point → Child Protection Service → Follow-up & Support**

A child should never have to navigate abuse alone.

Help prevent child sexual abuse! Rutgers University, in collaboration with a Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Coalition, is conducting a community-based research study. They are inviting adult survivors of child sexual abuse to share their experience in a survey. Results from this survey will help researchers learn from survivor experiences to better understand the social norms, knowledge, and beliefs that contributed to risk and/or protective factors.

I am deeply honored to be featured in this week's Brave Movement Membership Spotlight, recognizing our collective efforts to end childhood sexual violence. The Brave Movement is a global survivor-led movement advocating for prevention, healing, and justice for every child.

This recognition reflects the dedication of the Enough Abuse Campaign Sierra Leone, our volunteers, survivors, community leaders, partners, and every child advocate who believes that children deserve to grow up safe, protected, and heard.

Through community engagement, survivor-centered advocacy, school-based prevention initiatives, and partnerships, we will continue working tirelessly to strengthen child protection systems in Sierra Leone.

🚨 PUBLIC SAFEGUARDING NOTICE

Enough Abuse Sierra Leone has become aware of social media posts and blog publications regarding an alleged private video involving a minor.

As an organization committed to protecting children from all forms of abuse, we strongly condemn the creation, sharing, reposting, downloading, or commenting on any content involving a child. Every share, repost, screenshot, or blog article further victimizes the child and may constitute a violation of Sierra Leonean law.

We therefore warn all bloggers, social media users, media houses, content creators, and online platforms to immediately cease publishing, discussing, or circulating any material related to this matter. Anyone who continues to do so may be held legally accountable under the relevant child protection and cybercrime laws.

The continued circulation of such content can have devastating consequences, including:
🔹 Severe psychological trauma.
🔹 Cyberbullying and public humiliation.
🔹 Disruption of the child's education and future opportunities.
🔹 Long-term emotional harm, including anxiety, depression, self-harm, and suicidal thoughts.

This child deserves protection—not public judgment.

We call upon her family, friends, school, and community to surround her with compassion, support, and understanding during this difficult time.

We also urge the Sierra Leone Police, particularly the Cyber Unit and Family Support Unit, to urgently investigate this matter and take appropriate legal action against those responsible for creating, distributing, or profiting from this content, as well as any blogs or social media accounts that continue to publish or promote it.

Furthermore, we call upon the Ministry of Gender and Children's Affairs, Legal Aid Board, Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone, Timap for Justice, and all child protection partners to act swiftly to safeguard the child's rights, dignity, and wellbeing.

Our message is simple:
❌ Don't share it.
❌ Don't repost it.
❌ Don't discuss it for clicks or entertainment.
✅ Protect the child.
✅ Report abuse.
✅ Stand against online exploitation.

Every child has the right to safety, dignity, privacy, and a future free from abuse.
