How are the victims of the climate crisis treated without fueling the very crisis that made them sick ?

Somalia is placed on the absolute frontline of climate change. Families are being driven from their homes by a brutal cycle of failed rains, recurring droughts, and devastating floods. The consequences are not just felt environmentally—they are experienced medically. Rising malnutrition is faced by children, alongside ruthless outbreaks of measles, malaria, and acute watery diarrhea.

How can these health emergencies be responded to without the damage being added to?

At Mudug Regional Hospital in Galkayo, after years of almost entire reliance on loud, polluting diesel generators, we upgraded the hospital's solar power system and expanded with battery storage for use after sunset. Today, a large share of power is drawn straight from the sun by the hospital, with diesel generators kept strictly as a backup.
