The Somali Social Unity Party (SSUP) participated in the Regional Meeting on Global Changes and Their Implications for the Region, held on 22–23 August 2026 in Benghazi, Libya, and organized by the Libyan Future Movement Party.
Representing SSUP, Halima Abdullahi Sheikh Rashid participated in the meeting and contributed to discussions addressing important political, institutional, economic, and regional issues affecting countries across Africa and the Arab region.
The meeting brought together political parties and representatives from Somalia, Libya, and other Arab and African countries, creating an important platform for political dialogue, exchange of experiences, and discussion of practical approaches to strengthening institutions, improving governance, promoting economic development, and supporting reconstruction.
During the sixth session, participants discussed international and regional initiatives, institutional unification, governance, economic development, and reconstruction. These discussions provided an opportunity to share experiences and explore ways in which political actors can contribute to stability, institutional development, and sustainable progress.
For the Somali Social Unity Party, participation in this regional forum reflects the Party’s commitment to constructive political dialogue, regional cooperation, strong institutions, good governance, and inclusive political participation.
SSUP believes that Somalia has an important role to play in regional political dialogue and that engagement with political movements and institutions across Africa and the Arab world can provide valuable opportunities for exchanging experiences and developing practical solutions to common challenges.
The Party also views regional cooperation as an important pathway toward strengthening peace, stability, national unity, democratic governance, and sustainable economic development in Somalia and the wider region.
The participation of SSUP in the Benghazi meeting represents another step in strengthening the Party’s regional engagement and international political relations, while providing an opportunity to present Somalia’s perspectives and contribute to broader discussions on the future of governance and development in the region.
The Somali Social Unity Party remains committed to building a united, peaceful, democratic, and prosperous Somalia through inclusive political participation, strong institutions, accountable governance, and constructive regional cooperation.
