Golol Gallery

Golol Gallery Fine arts from the first and last independent gallery in Somalia. Ali Said Hassan, assembled.

The long-standing Somali civil war and the preceding collapse of the last military regime resulted in an unimaginable devastation and near total destruction of the nation’s heritage. Which destroyed cultural memories, archives as well as historical centers such as the National Museum, National Academy and the only privately owned and collected gallery known as the Golol Art Gallery, of which Mr. G

olol Art Gallery was the first and the last independent gallery of its kind ever established in Somalia and based in the capital city Mogadishu during the ousted military government. Golol Art Gallery contained 1123 pieces of artifacts including sculptures and invaluable paintings. Over the years, I succeeded to be able to preserve only 34 paintings out of the total collection. All of which 34 preserved paintings I brought to London myself after relocating. These paintings carry missing historical and cultural importance, which will interest both the community and the scholars.
