The UN in Somalia and AUSSOM marked in with a tree planting initiative under the theme “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”

Acting ASG and Head of UNSOS, Ms. Qurat-ul-Ain Sadozai; SRCC and Head of AUSSOM, Amb. El Hadji Ibrahima Diene; and Deputy SRSG/RC/HC, George Conway UN attended the event.

In collaboration with AUSSOM, UNSOS is advancing environmental protection through wastewater reuse, greener camps, renewable energy, reduced plastics, better waste management, and expanded solar.

Ms. Sadozai emphasized simple actions—switch off lights/ACs when not using, use reusable bottles, avoid plastic, and practice the 3Rs: reduce, reuse, recycle—showing real change starts with daily choices.

El Hadji Ibrahima Diene (SRCC and Head of African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia-AUSSOM), and Acting ASG and Head of United Nations Support Office in Somalia - UNSOS, Ms. Qurat-ul-Ain Sadozai held a tripartite meeting, focusing on the budget, Trust Fund, and joint and coordinated – operations. They agreed to further strengthen the partnership and coordination on shared priorities.

3️⃣7️⃣ African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia-AUSSOM 🇪🇹🇩🇯 troops & Somali National Army (SNA) 🇸🇴personnel participated in Human Rights Due Diligence Policy sensitization sessions conducted by the UNSOS Risk Management & Compliance (HRDDP) team from 13–20 May.

⚖️ Discussions focused on implementation of mitigation measures, compliance, and respect for international human rights, humanitarian, and refugee law as a prerequisite for UN support.

🤝 This UNSOS initiative contributes to strengthening the responsible implementation of UN-supported operations in Somalia.
