BENTIU, AUGUST 28TH, 2026.
Governor Dr Joseph Manytuil has today in his office at the State General Secretariat met with the leadership of Bentiu IDPs Camp, Camp counties solidarity, and the representatives of the deceased, of 19th August, 2026 incidents between the joints forces and followers of the self Proclaimed Prophet, Mr Taban Puol, in Bentiu IDPs Camp.
The camp leadership briefs His Excellency the Governor Dr Joseph Manytuil, on the prevailing security situation in the camp, describing the situation as calm and stable; the leadership applauds the swift response of the State government in restoring calm and de-escalating the clashes.
Governor Manytuil reassures the bereaved families of his administration‘s commitment to serve justice, and holds the perpetrators accountable for the lives lost, while the state government launches an investigation into the incidents.
'' It’s unfortunate and unacceptable that lives have been lost, and dozens of others wounded in the camp, including the police officer who succumbed to a knife stabbing. The people in Bentiu IDPs camp deserve peace and delivery of basic services rather than violence, as the state government is determined to fulfil its constitutional mandate.
‘’As we mourn the departed souls, my administration will continue to extend its full support to the families affected by the incidents as the state government puts more efforts to promote peace and reconciliation.
The meeting was attended by the Camp High Committee leadership, Commissioner of Rubkona County, Hon. Stephen Salam Maluit, 4th Infantry Division, Maj. Gen. Joseph Manyuat, as well as other state security apparatus.
