Juba, Monday, June 1, 2026- The National Chairperson of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC), Hon. Stephen K. Gach, joined the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hon. Albino Akol Atak, and Hon. William Othwonh Awer, Chairperson of the Specialized Committee for Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs in the TNLA, in attending the Validation Workshop for the Revised National Disaster Risk Management Policy of South Sudan at Palm Africa Hotel.

The workshop was organized by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management with support from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the World Food Programme (WFP).

Theme:Strengthening Disaster Risk Governance and Resilience for the Nation.

In his remarks, Hon. Gach emphasized that strengthening early warning systems remains a key national priority. He stressed that disaster risk reduction must be integrated into all aspects of national development planning to enhance resilience and reduce vulnerabilities. He also underscored the importance of community awareness, calling for increased investment in local knowledge, community empowerment, and community-based preparedness mechanisms.

Hon. Gach expressed appreciation to humanitarian partners for their continued support, noting that South Sudan must transition from a culture of reaction to a culture of prevention and preparedness. He further called upon stakeholders to actively contribute to the validation process to ensure that the revised policy reflects the needs and priorities of communities across the country and provides a strong framework for building resilience at both national and local levels.

IDPs AND RETURNEES FROM BILNYANG PRESENT GOATS TO RRC AND MINISTRY OF HUMANITARIAN AFFAIRS AND DISASTER MANAGEMENT IN APPRECIATION OF GOVERNMENT SUPPORT

Juba, Central Equatoria State -The leadership of IDPs and returnees from Bilnyang, one of the main resettlement centers for IDPs and returnees in Central Equatoria State, presented two goats as gifts to Hon. Albino Akol Atak, National Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, and Hon. Stephen K. Gach, National Chairperson of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC), in appreciation of the recent humanitarian assistance provided by the Government of South Sudan. The event took place at the main hall of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management in Juba.

The purpose of the visit was to express gratitude to the leadership of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management and the RRC for the humanitarian support recently delivered to IDPs and returnees in Bilnyang.

Mrs. Marnaath Pur Bup, Executive Director of Women Focused Network (WFN), appreciated Hon. Stephen K. Gach and Hon. Albino Akol Atak for their continued support and firm commitment toward assisting IDPs and returnees in Bilnyang and other areas following the humanitarian assistance recently provided by the Government of South Sudan.

Mr. Peter Wany, the IDPs leader in Bilnyang, appealed to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management and the RRC to provide mosquito nets, water tanks, school facilities, and increased food ration quantities for the affected communities.

Hon. Albino Akol Atak thanked the IDPs and returnees in Bilnyang for recognizing the efforts of the Ministry and the RRC. He assured them that the government would continue addressing the challenges facing IDPs and returnees in Bilnyang. He also urged the IDPs and returnees to remain united and work together in peace and harmony.

HIGH COMMITTEE FOR IDPs AND RETURNEES AND FIVE REPRESENTATIVES FROM CAMPS AND RETURNEE CENTERS PRESENT GIFT TO THE NATIONAL CHAIRPERSON – RRC

Juba, Wednesday, May 20, 2026— The High Committee for IDPs and Returnees in South Sudan, led by Chairman Angelo Dut and Secretary General Joseph Majier Akot, together with representatives from five IDP camps and returnee centers namely Bilnyang Center, Nyin-Anyar Center, Jebel Aminiane Center, Hai Salam Center, and Mangateen Camp, paid a courtesy visit to the National Chairperson of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC), Hon. Stephen K. Gach, at his office.

During the visit, the delegation presented gifts and conveyed appreciation while also highlighting the key challenges facing IDPs and returnees. The meeting was held in the presence of the Deputy Chairperson, Hon. Makuc Makuc, and the Executive Director, Hon. Kacuol Benjamin Koi, as a gesture of gratitude for the ongoing humanitarian assistance provided by the Government of the Republic of South Sudan.

Hon. Gach welcomed the delegation and thanked the leadership of the IDPs and returnees for their gesture of appreciation and recognition. He reaffirmed the commitment of the RRC and the Government to continue supporting vulnerable communities across the country.

“We are here to support you and stand with you during these difficult times,” Hon. Gach stated, emphasizing that available humanitarian assistance would be distributed fairly and equitably among all those in need.

He further assured the leaders of the five IDP camps and returnee centers that the RRC remains committed to addressing their concerns, noting that 30 percent of the current humanitarian assistance has been allocated to IDPs and returnees in Central Equatoria State.

The leadership of the five IDP camps and returnee centers expressed their sincere appreciation to the RRC for the continued humanitarian support extended to displaced and returning communities.

NATIONAL CHAIRPERSON-RRC AND MINISTER OF HUMANITARIAN AFFAIRS AND 𝐃ISASTER MANAGEMENT MEET NEW WFP COUNTRY DIRECTOR

Juba, Tuesday, May 19, 2026 — The National Chairperson of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC), Hon. Stephen K. Gach, today joined the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hon. Albino Akol Atak, in a meeting with the World Food Programme (WFP) at the Minister’s office in Juba.

The meeting focused on introducing the new WFP Country Director and strengthening the partnership between the Government of South Sudan and WFP in addressing the country’s growing humanitarian needs caused by conflict, displacement, food insecurity, flooding, and climate-related shocks.

Ms. Mutinta Chimuka reaffirmed WFP’s commitment to continued cooperation with the government. She emphasized the importance of strengthening food security, sustaining nutrition support, delivering food and non-food assistance, and building long-term resilience for affected communities across the country.

Hon. Albino Akol Atak welcomed the new WFP Country Director to South Sudan and expressed appreciation for WFP’s continued efforts in reducing food insecurity among communities affected by floods, conflict, and the returnee crisis.

During the meeting, Hon. Albino Akol Atak introduced and highly commended the National Chairperson-RRC, Hon. Stephen K. Gach, to the new WFP Country Director, describing him as a “field commander and hard worker” in humanitarian operations and a key facilitator in coordinating humanitarian partners’ activities across South Sudan. The Minister encouraged the new Country Director to work closely and cooperate with Hon. Stephen K. Gach in advancing humanitarian response efforts in the country.

The Minister further stressed the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for humanitarian actors to operate effectively, noting that challenges facing aid operations can be addressed through dialogue, stronger partnerships, and continued cooperation between the government and humanitarian partners.

On this historic occasion of SPLA Day, I extend my warmest greetings and heartfelt wishes to all South Sudanese, both at home and abroad.

Today, May 16th, 2026, we commemorate SPLA Day—a pivotal moment in our nation's history. This day marks the formation of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A) in 1983, under the leadership of the founding members of our Movement: Dr. John Garang de Mabior, Kerubino Kuanyin Bol, William Nyuon Bany, and our current President, Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit.

As the National Chairperson of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC), i reaffirm our strong commitment to serving communities across our nation-especially those affected by conflict and displacement.
