VP TABAN DENG G*I CHAIRS CLUSTER MEETING, PUSHES FOR JUBA-NIMULE ROAD RECONSTRUCTION AND ISA LEADERSHIP FOR SOUTH SUDAN.

Juba, 2nd September 2026 – The Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan and Chairperson of the Infrastructure Cluster, H.E. Gen. Taban Deng G*i, today presided over the 3rd Infrastructure Cluster Meeting of 2026 at the Office of the Vice President.

The meeting reviewed and deliberated on the following:
Review and Approval of Previous Minutes; Status Briefing on the Juba-Nimule Road
- Presentation of the Juba-Nimule Corridor Assessment Report by the Assessment Team
- Financial Options for the Reconstruction of the Juba-Nimule Road

The Minister of Energy and Dams, Hon. Agok Makur Kur, briefed the cluster on his participation in the 8th Regional Meeting of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) held in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

The Minister highlighted the following key outcomes:
Member states agreed that South Sudan will develop a Country Partnership Agreement with ISA to guide strategic cooperation in solar energy development.
ISA member states committed to support South Sudan in the implementation of solar projects under the agreement, including technical advisory and financing facilitation.
South Sudan secured support for a solar rooftop project and training programs through the ISA Academy to build local technical capacity.

The Minister further announced that South Sudan has been offered the opportunity to serve as Vice President of the International Solar Alliance, with the term set to commence in November 2026.

After deliberations, the cluster approved and endorsed the previous minutes and
recommended the nomination of the Minister of Energy and Dams to serve as the next Vice President of ISA on behalf of South Sudan.
In his closing remarks, H.E. Gen. Taban Deng G*i issued the following directives,
All Ministers and technical staff of the Infrastructure Cluster are to prepare and submit a comprehensive 6-year report covering the period since the signing of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) in 2020.
_“This is the right time for us to prepare our report because this marks the end of our tenure,”_ the Vice President stated.

Gen. Taban Deng also directed the minister of Roads & Bridges to write a letter to the Minister of Finance and Planning to expedite payment to the contractor for the reconstruction of the Juba-Nimule Road. The Vice President emphasized that payment is critical for the immediate commencement of reconstruction works.
The Vice President also informed members to begin preparations for the upcoming general elections.

JUBA, 1st. Sept. 2026– The Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan and Chairperson of the Infrastructure Cluster, H.E. Gen. Taban Deng G*i, today received the body of the late Lt. Col. Jinub Biey Tuel, who passed away in Cairo, Egypt, 26. August.2026.

The remains of the late Lt. Col Jinub Biey will be flown to Bentiu, Unity State, for burial.

May his soul rest in peace.

Vice President calls for end to insecurity, proposes Abyei Fund, and urges UN Security Council to take decisive action

JUBA, 29 August 2026*– The Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan and Chairperson of the Infrastructure Cluster, H.E. Gen. Taban Deng G*i, today reaffirmed the Government of South Sudan’s commitment to achieving a lasting settlement of the Abyei issue.

Speaking during deliberations on the Abyei file, Gen. Taban underscored the importance of the legal track, international arbitration, and ongoing discussions within the United Nations on the future status of Abyei.

He noted that international discussions face several challenges, including the absence of key parties from some consultation sessions.

"This raises questions about the ability of any decision to produce practical results without the participation of all concerned parties," he said.
The Vice President stressed that any sustainable settlement must involve all relevant stakeholders. At the same time, he said political disagreements should not delay urgent measures to protect civilians and secure the area.

Gen. Taban also announced a proposal to establish a Special Abyei Fund dedicated to supporting development in the area.
He explained that the fund could receive contributions and donations from states, organizations, and individuals willing to support development projects and basic services in Abyei.
"Such a mechanism could help improve living conditions and support the return and resettlement of residents, he stated.

Security as a Condition for the Return of Residents
The Vice President identified continued insecurity as one of the main obstacles preventing residents from returning to Abyei.
He said reports indicate that looting and highway robbery continue along roads leading to Abyei, discouraging many residents from returning despite the difficult conditions they face outside the area.

Gen. Taban called for an end to what he described as “the wasting of time, resources, and lives,” and urged a shift toward practical measures to restore stability.
"Encouraging residents to return requires genuine security guarantees, the deployment of forces capable of protecting civilians, and measures to secure trade routes and the movement of people," he stressed.

"This issue requires concrete action, not continued political statements," he said.
He cautioned that repeatedly questioning what the people of Abyei -----

Vice President addresses Abyei National Symposium in Juba, urges Ngok Dinka and Twic Mayardit youth to choose reconciliation over conflict

JUBA, 29 August 2026 – The Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan and Chairperson of the Infrastructure Cluster, H.E. Gen. Taban Deng G*i, today addressed the Abyei Youth Forum during the Abyei National Symposium on the Abyei file and its final status.

In his keynote remarks, Gen. Taban reaffirmed the government’s position on Abyei.
"Abyei is in South Sudan," he declared. "The Government of South Sudan stands firmly with the people of Abyei. Whatever rights South Sudanese deserve, the citizens of Abyei deserve the same."

The Vice President called on Abyei youth to uphold peace, law, and order among themselves and with their neighbors in Twic Mayardit.
"That is what the government expects from you," he said.

Describing the recent clashes between the Ngok Dinka and Twic Mayardit communities as "senseless," Gen. Taban said there is no justification for conflict between the two communities who share deep historical and family ties.
"They have intermarried more than any other communities in South Sudan," he noted.
He stressed that "this is not the time for border demarcation, but for peace and harmony."

To promote reconciliation, the Vice President directed the office of Hon. Adut Salva Kiir Mayardit, Special Envoy to the President, to organize a peace conference in Juba between Ngok Dinka Youth and Twic Mayardit youth. He emphasized that dialogue in the capital should be followed by grassroots engagements to restore trust and confidence.

On the international front, Gen. Taban called on the committee handling the Abyei file to actively lobby the five permanent members of the UN Security Council to revive discussions on Abyei’s final status.

Vice President Gen. Taban Deng G*i said there is a flawed land policy in Juba, and that this is the main barrier to development.

He stated that the Government of South Sudan needs to go to Ramciel in order to change the land policy.

Juba, 27 August, 2026 -The Vice President of the Republic and Chairperson of the infrastructure Cluster, H.E. Gen. Taban Deng G*i , today joined the Vice President and chairperson for economic cluster H.E Prof. Dr. James Wani Igga, and H.E. Mama Rebecca Nyandeng D’ Mabior, Vice president for Gender & Youth cluster and many other government official to see off the body of the late, Salvatore Garang Mabiordit to pay their last respects as his body was taken to home State for burial.
Hon. Salvatore Garang Mabiordit was a devoted public servant who dedicated his life to serving the people of South Sudan with integrity and dignity.

Vice President Gen. Taban Deng G*i Closes First-Ever Global Logistics Conference in Juba, Calls for Land Policy Reform to Attract Investors.

JUBA, 27 August 2026– The Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan and Chair of the Infrastructure Cluster, H.E. Gen. Taban Deng G*i, today officially closed the three-day Global Logistics Conference held in Juba.
The Global Logistics Convention (GLC) was hosted for the first time in South Sudan this August 2026 by the Ministry of Transport. The event brought together more than 1,000 business leaders, policymakers, logistics experts, and investors from across Africa and beyond to discuss trade, transport, and investment opportunities in South Sudan.

The conference was organized by the South Sudan Freight Forwarders Association (SSFFA) under the leadership of its President, Mr. Deng Daniel Ayuen.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Ayuen described the convention as a key platform for addressing trade barriers, improving regional connectivity, and promoting investment in South Sudan’s transport and logistics sectors.
“This is our time to shine as the South Sudanese business community,” Ayuen said. “The convention brought together more than 1,000 participants under one roof to discuss business opportunities, challenges, and policies that can improve trade across Africa.”

The closing session was attended by:
- Dr. Deng Diar Diing, Executive Secretary of the Northern Corridor Transit and Transport Coordination Authority. He emphasized the need to harmonize customs policies to ease the movement of goods and people, noting that transport is key to the Northern Corridor.

Vice President’s Remarks
In his closing address, H.E. Gen. Taban Deng G*i thanked SSFFA and its partners for organizing the important event.

He pledged the government’s support for the implementation of the resolutions of the conference and directed the Minister of Transport to present them to the Infrastructure Cluster for adoption.

The Vice President also called on the Government of South Sudan to re-examine the national land policy, particularly the Juba land policy, which currently does not allow investors to own land in the country. He noted that land ownership is critical to attracting private investment in logistics and infrastructure.

Highlighting priority infrastructure, H.E. Gen. Taban underscored the importance of three key roads: the Juba–Nimule Road, the Nadapal–Juba Road, and the Kaya–Juba Road, as vital corridors for trade and regional integration.

The three-day conference concluded with commitments from government and private sector stakeholders to work together to position South Sudan as a regional logistics hub.

Juba, 21st August, 2026 - The Vice President and Chairperson for Infrastructure Cluster Gen. Taban Deng G*i has expressed solidarity with the family of the Late former Minister of Finance Hon. Salvatore Garang Mabordit who died Thursday this week.

Gen. Taban described the late as a true patriot and professional who dedicated his life to the service of South Sudan significantly in the economic sector.

The Vice President encouraged the family, Kuac Ayok community, friends of the late and the general public to emulate the positive life of professionalism and integrity lived by Hon. Salvatore.

JUBA, 19th AUGUST, 2026 - The The Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan and Chair of the Infrastructure Cluster, H.E. Gen. Taban Deng G*i has today met with the Independent Electoral Committee of the Nuer Youth Union (NYU) at his office.

The Committee was led by Mr. Marnaath Hoth Guor, accompanied by the members of his committee . The purpose of the meeting was to brief the Vice President on the ongoing process of the Nuer Youth Union elections.

Addressing the media after the meeting, the committee's Chairman said the election process would be free, fair and reflective of the social status of youth organizations emphasizing that the Nuer Youth Union is a community-based organization the support social welfare, unity and peaceful coexistence of Naath nation as well as with its neigboring communities.

The Vice President thanked the committee for its efforts to organize free, peaceful and transparent elections. Gen. Taban applauded the growing democratic spirit being exhibited by youth and community organizations across the country. "I am pleased with how youth and community associations are embracing democracy and peaceful means to seek leadership. this shows that the future of our country will be peaceful because guns can not produce as good leaders as could have been elected by people". He said.
H.E pledged to support youth and community organizations as they spread democratic values and principles of freedom of choice and respect for term limits.

The Vice President further advised the youth to prepare for the country’s forthcoming general elections.

Vice President Gen. Taban Deng G*i Meets the U.S. Ambassador

Juba, August 17th, 2026, H.E. Taban Deng G*i, Vice President of the Republic and chairperson of the Infrastructure Cluster, met with Mr. Michael J. Adler, Ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of South Sudan.

The meeting discussed a number of issues, most notably the introduction of the new U.S. Deputy Ambassador to the country, as well as issues of peace, security, and the elections scheduled to be held in December of this year, 2026.

For his part, the U.S. Ambassador affirmed his country's commitment to peace and to a return to the negotiating table among the warring parties, as well as the immediate release of political detainees.

In his remarks, H.E. Taban Deng G*i commended the American role in supporting the peace process and stability in the country. He affirmed that the government is making every effort to free citizens from the cycle of endless transitional governments by proceeding to elections.

He pointed out that the government genuinely supports efforts aimed at establishing an inclusive national dialogue, which would end the suffering of our people.
