The SPLM 16 May Anniversary Celebration Mobilization Committee convened a productive coordination meeting today at Juba County Secretariat with traditional chiefs from across the county to mobilize community participation for the upcoming commemoration of Sudan People’s Liberation Movement’s historic milestone on 16th May 2026.
The meeting was chaired by Comrade Henry Darteyo Ladu, SPLM Secretary for Juba County and Co-Secretary of the Mobilization Committee. In his address, Comrade Ladu emphasized the pivotal role of traditional leaders in ensuring the success of the anniversary celebration. He underscored that “the success of this historic event rests in the hands of our chiefs,” and called for unified collaboration between the chiefs and the Mobilization Committee to drive mass civic engagement at the grassroots level.
“Our people must be reminded of the sacrifices made for our freedom. The chiefs are the trusted voices in every community — we need you to spread the message, mobilize attendance, and ensure every corner of Juba County is prepared to honor this day with dignity and pride,” Comrade Ladu stated.
In their responses, the participating chiefs reaffirmed their full commitment to the cause. They pledged to actively disseminate the message of the celebration to their respective communities, mobilize participation, and work closely with the Mobilization Committee to ensure a seamless, peaceful, and culturally significant commemoration.
Also present at the meeting were Comrade Julius Sebit Juma, Assistant Secretary for Administration and Finance, and Comrade Joseph Laku Gabriel, Information Secretary of the Mobilization Committee, who outlined logistical and communication strategies for the campaign.
