It is a school where the government does not pick a god for everyone else’s children."
Secular does not mean godless.
Secular does not mean anti-Christian.
Secular does not mean hostile to faith.
👉Secular means the public school does not belong to one religion.
It means a Christian child, Jewish child, Muslim child, Hindu child, atheist child, agnostic child, questioning child, and every other child can walk into the same public school and know they belong there equally.
And let’s be VERY clear:
Some of the people fighting hardest to keep public schools secular are deeply faithful Christians. 💜
-Christians who believe faith should not be coerced.
-Christians who believe the government should not be in charge of religious formation.
-Christians who believe children should not be pressured, bribed, or socially sorted during the school day.
-Christians who believe public schools are for education, not evangelism.
-Christians who understand that religious freedom only works when the government stays neutral.
✳️That is what secular means.
It protects religion from government control.
It protects children from religious pressure.
It protects families from having someone else’s theology inserted into the school day.
💜A secular public school is not a godless school.
It is a school where the government does not pick a god for everyone else’s children.
Public schools belong to all of us.
That is exactly why they must stay secular.
Public schools are not pulpits.
