The Philippine Embassy in Damascus, Syria conducted an official visit to Idlib Governorate, including a courtesy call on Vice Governor Hassan Al-Fajer and Director of Public Relations Yousef Abdul Aal, as part of continuing efforts to strengthen engagement with authorities in northern Syria.

Discussions focused on reconstruction efforts, economic recovery, and potential areas of cooperation, including trade and labor opportunities. The meeting also highlighted the longstanding relations between the Philippines and Syria, as well as shared values of resilience and hospitality.

The visit provided the Embassy with valuable firsthand insight into local governance and development priorities in Idlib, following the reopening of access to the governorate after approximately 11 years. END

The Philippine Embassy in Damascus, Syria held discussions with representatives of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Aleppo on humanitarian developments in Syria and concerns involving Filipino nationals in camps and detention facilities.

Discussions covered protection concerns, camp conditions, documentation issues, repatriation-related concerns, and possible coordination mechanisms involving Filipinos in northern Syria. The meeting also reaffirmed the importance of continued cooperation on protection and assistance-related initiatives for affected Filipino nationals.

The Embassy likewise expressed appreciation for UNHCR’s continued humanitarian efforts and engagement on these matters. END
