Eswatini Legal Aid

Eswatini Legal Aid The Legal Aid Office was set up following the adoption of the Legal Aid Policy in 2022 by the Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini.

The office is under the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs (MoJCA). It aims to provide quality and sustainable legal information and education, legal training, legal assistance, legal advice, alternative dispute resolution, legal representation and other related services to indigent and vulnerable persons, a victim or witness(s) in criminal, civil and other non-litigious matters.

The Legal Aid Office participated in a strategic meeting hosted by the Namibia Legal Aid on the 14th to 16th July 2026. The visit provided a valuable platform for engagement with fellow legal aid providers, fostering collaboration and the exchange of knowledge on enhancing access to justice and legal aid.

The delegation also conducted educational site visits to the High Court and Magistrate Court of Namibia, the University of Namibia, and the Legal Assistance Centre where they gained valuable insights into the legal and justice systems.

The Eswatini Legal Aid Office extends its sincere gratitude to the Namibia Legal Aid Office for the warm hospitality, insightful discussions, and the thoughtful gifts presented to our delegation. We look forward to strengthening our partnership and continuing to work together in advancing access to justice across the region.

The Eswatini Legal Aid team is currently participating in a strategic meeting with Legal Aid Lesotho at the Legal Aid Office in the Kingdom of Lesotho. We are honoured to have been invited to take part in this valuable collaboration, which aims to strengthen regional partnerships and promote the exchange of best practices in the delivery of legal aid services.

The delegation has also had the privilege of visiting the Ministry of Justice in the Kingdom of Lesotho, the Legal Aid Clinic and the Women and Law in Southern Africa Research and Education Trust (WLSA Lesotho).

On 23rd June 2026, Eswatini Legal Aid participated in the commemoration of International Widows Day held at Millennium Park in Manzini.

The event brought together various stakeholders to raise awareness of the challenges faced by widows and to promote the protection of their rights and dignity. Through engagement with the public, Eswatini Legal Aid shared information on legal aid services available to indigent widows and members of society.

Today Marks the last day of Eswatini Legal Aid’s training on Alternative Dispute Resolution. We express appreciation to Judge Justice Dario Ossumane of the Supreme Court of Mozambique, the Judges of the Industrial Court and Industrial Court of Appeal, CMAC and officials from the Attorney General’s chambers and the Commission on Human Rights for taking part in this training.
