A UNITED FRONT FOR CHILD SAFETY: NATIONAL HAZARD AWARENESS CAMPAIGN A RESOUNDING SUCCESS! šŸ§ÆšŸ’¦
The gospel of safety has officially been taken to the future leaders of our nation! The Eswatini National Fire Rescue and Emergency Service recently joined forces with a powerful coalition of stakeholders to roll out the National Hazard Awareness Training Campaign. This massive collaborative effort brought together the Ministry of Health, the National Disaster Management Agency (NDRMA), the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS), the Baphalali Eswatini Red Cross Society, the Eswatini Drowning Prevention Alliance (EDPA), and World Vision Eswatini, alongside vital sister government entities. Driven by the belief that keeping children safe requires immediate, proactive awareness, these multi-stakeholder teams hit the ground running to deliver crucial, life-saving skills directly to local classrooms.

The high-impact safety train made its first major stops in the Shiselweni region, successfully empowering schools across two constituencies. In Gege Inkhundla, teams equipped four primary schools, including Gege Methodist Primary and Eric Rosenburg Primary, with vital knowledge on hazard identification, disaster risk reduction, and emergency response protocols. The momentum then carried straight into Sigwe Inkhundla, where two more schools, including Mpakeni Primary and Lulakeni Primary, received intensive training on drowning prevention, chemical safety, crime awareness, and personal security.

ENFRES extend its massive appreciation to the incredible school administrations, dedicated teachers, community leaders, and invaluable stakeholders for making this campaign a success. By recognizing risks early, the fire service, together with the other stakeholders, are working together to protect every single child in Eswatini.
Remember, safety starts with you. In case of any emergency, report immediately to the authorities:

A SHIELD OF KNOWLEDGE: Strengthening The Nation Against Fire.

Eswatini National Fire,Rescue and Emergency Service (ENFRES) turned a routine school gathering into a life-saving mission today at St. Mary’s Primary School-Lobamba.

Before the official Open Day proceedings could begin, the school hosted a vital fire safety awareness session, recognizing that a truly successful education must include the safety of the scholars, teachers, and parents alike. With the winter season rapidly approaching—a period where Eswatini historically faces devastating wildfires and increased structural fires, this proactive engagement was designed to ensure the community is equipped with the knowledge to prevent a tragedy before it starts.

The session was led by Training Station Officer Bheki D. Vilakati and Firefighter Bhekumusa J. Maseko from Lobamba Fire Station , who brought years of field experience and knowledge to the classroom. They emphasized that as the temperature drops, the risk to Eswatini homes rises. The fire officers spoke passionately about the dangers of the winter season, particularly the wildfires that often originate in dry grasslands and quickly spread to residential areas and school buildings.

During the presentation, the officers covered a range of critical winter safety topics. Heavily focusing on the safe use of heating appliances, warning against the dangers of unattended (brazier) and faulty electrical heaters, which are common causes of house fires during the colder months.

Today, Eswatini National Fire, Rescue and Emergency Service (ENFRES) joins the global community in observing Firefighters’ Memorial Day. We stand in solemn silence to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their courage serves as the foundation of our safety, and their legacy is woven into the very fabric of the communities they protected.

Being a firefighter in Eswatini is far more than a job; it is a calling that requires unwavering discipline and a selfless heart. On this day, we pay tribute to the fallen heroes who walked into danger so that others could walk out, ensuring their names remain forever etched in our history. We also salute our frontline, active-duty firefighters who remain on call 24/7 to face wildfires, structural blazes, and road accidents.

Furthermore, we recognize the immense strength of the families who support our heroes, enduring long shifts and the inherent risks of this noble profession.

Whether we are battling fierce bushfires during the dry season or performing technical rescues during emergencies, our mission remains clear: to save lives and protect property. It has been said that there is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends, and it is in this spirit that we serve.

As the bells ring in remembrance today, we renew our pledge to the Kingdom of Eswatini to serve with bravery, resilience, and integrity.

Yesterday, the Eswatini National Fire Rescue and Emergency Service (ENFRES) made a meaningful return to Mlawula Nature Reserve, revisiting the young leaders at Rising Stars Generations Eswatini This follow-up visit reinforced the firm belief that a safer future is built on consistent education, securing the safety of our nation by further investing in the leaders of tomorrow.

The day’s session shifted from theory to vital survival skills. While no students donned the firefighting helmets yesterday, they engaged in a high-stakes assimilation of an emergency escape procedure from a burning building. The future leaders practised a precise, life-saving sequence:

• Crawling Low:To stay beneath the rising smoke and heat where the air is cleaner.
• Following Concrete Walls (using the outer hand): To maintain orientation and avoid getting lost in zero-visibility conditions.
• Finding a Safe Exit Quickly:To minimize time spent in a hazardous environment.
• Calling 933:To alert emergency dispatchers immediately once safety is reached.

The engagement moved from practice to observation as the students witnessed a high-energy demonstration of live fire suppression tactics. Watching the fire officers in action provided a firsthand look at the bravery and technical focus required to stand on the front lines.

is not just teaching fire safety but cultivating the discipline and bravery required to protect our communities.
