The Department of Gender Affairs hosted its final engagement in commemoration of International Day of the Boy Child 2026 on Friday June 5th, when we spent an impactful day at the Wesley Methodist High School, engaging 60 young men.

The day kicked off with an inspiring session from Mr. Andy Missick from the Department of Rehabilitation and Community Services , who shared valuable insights with the boys around accountability, emotional well-being and leadership. He challenged them to remain focused on their education, surround themselves with positive influence and strive to become respectful young men in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Commissioner Fitz Bailey and nine (9) members of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force joined the session and led an engaging round of discussions with the young men, adding new and interesting perspectives. Commissioner Bailey shared his own powerful life story, highlighting what he had to overcome to get to where he is today, and shared key lessons on how the young men could become positive leaders.

The session generated thoughtful discussion, with students posing insightful questions to the Commissioner. One particularly outstanding question “What are your plans for the Turks and Caicos Islands?” sparked meaningful dialogue about the future of the country. In recognition of the students’ active participation, the RTCIPF presented gifts to students who correctly answered questions during the session, as well as to those who asked particularly thoughtful and engaging questions.

To wrap up this impactful day, Ms. Asamoah, our Research and Programme Officer left the boys with the powerful reminder that their past mistakes do not determine their future successes, and encouraged them to keep striving!

Thanks to all our speakers and to the brilliant young men from the WMHS who engaged in this session, reminding us that the future of the Turks and Caicos Islands is in excellent hands!

As we take a trip down memory lane this Throwback Thursday, we're reflecting on the incredible moments shared during last year's Love on Me: Girls Empowerment Programme!

Through engaging activities, meaningful discussions, and opportunities for personal growth, young girls were encouraged to build confidence, embrace their unique strengths, and develop valuable life skills in a supportive environment.

The smiles, friendships, and lessons learned throughout the programme continue to remind us of the importance of investing in the next generation of young women.

Stay tuned for registration details and programme updates!

Today, Minister of Public Safety, Hon. Shaun Malcolm was joined by Director Carolyn Dickenson and Deputy Director Monique Long representing the Department of Gender Affairs, for the EMTCT Validation Handing Over Ceremony for HIV and Hepatitis B in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

We were pleased to join the Ministry of Health and Human Services to commemorate this significant national achievement.

The Turks and Caicos Islands is the first Caribbean country to eliminate mother-to-child transmission for Hepatitis B, and joins our Caribbean neighbors in eliminating mother-to-child transmission for HIV!

Kudos to the Ministry of Health and Human Services for their dedicated leadership and to our other colleagues in the Validation Committee who provided technical expertise and support to the process!

The International Day of the Boy Child initiatives continued with an inspiring stop at the Thelma Lightbourne Primary School on the 21st of May.

Minister of Public Safety, Hon. Shaun Malcolm, sat down with 15 brilliant young boys from the Grade 5 class. To say they were locked in would be an understatement!

These brilliant 10-year-olds completely stole the show, diving into a deep conversation with questions on politics, governance, and leadership.

The boys asked the Minister tough, insightful questions like:
* "Why has the government term changed from 4 to 5 years?" and
* "When do you think the TCI will become independent?"

With their upcoming exams right around the corner, Hon. Shaun Malcolm also took the time to speak directly to the boys about preparation and academic success. He shared practical ways to help them get ready, encouraging them and emphasising the importance of always showing excellence in everything they do.

The thoughtful topics brought up by these young boys highlights how much our young people are paying attention to the things happening within our country. More importantly, it highlights the vital importance of having strong male figures for them to look up to.

This is exactly why initiatives like this matter. It provides a space for their curiosity, links them to mentors and role models to help to unlock their potential, and provides key guidance for their future.

A massive thank you to Hon. Shaun Malcolm, for his commitment to supporting the work of the Department of Gender Affairs, and the brilliant young men and the staff at Thelma Lightbourne Primary School for such an unforgettable and impactful afternoon!

As the initiative continues for International Day of the Boy Child, the Department of Gender Affairs strikes again!

Deputy Director of Department Of Youth Affairs, Turks & Caicos Islands, Mr. Nixon Dickenson, alongside Mr. Patterson Williams (Senior Network Engineer of the Ministry of Education), visited the H.J. Robinson High School, where they were welcomed by Principal Mr. Berkley Williams to engage with over 130 male students from 1st to 4th form.

The boys were actively engaged as the speakers broke down this year's theme, "Empowered Boys, Responsible Men: Thriving Emotionally, Socially, and Academically," by diving into the power of influence, breaking stereotypes, becoming responsible men and social media responsibility.

A special thank you to Principal Williams and the HJ Robinson High School family for welcoming this initiative so warmly and partnering with us to empower our young men.

Stay tuned, there’s more to come!

As the Department of Gender Affairs continues to celebrate International Day of the Boy Child, which was recognized on May 16th, we want to share some highlights from one of our school visits!

On Friday, May 15th, we partnered with the Oseta Jolly Primary School to engage with the students and staff. The Department was proudly represented by Ms. Anthonique Asamoah, Research Program Officer, who delivered an inspiring speech based on their theme: "Stand Up, Be Heard, Be Seen!" She encouraged our young boys to embrace their voices, lead with integrity, and support one another as they grow into the leaders of tomorrow.

A major highlight of the visit was recognising outstanding character in our young men. Ms. Asamoah had the honour of presenting the "Most Empathetic Boy" Award to two incredible students, one from the upper and lower primary division.

We are also thrilled to share that Turkberry generously sponsored two gift cards for the award recipients. Empathy is a true superpower!

This is just the beginning! The Department of Gender Affairs partnered with several other schools across the TCI to celebrate our boys this year. Stay tuned for those upcoming posts.

Happy International Day of the Boy Child👦🏾from the Department of Gender Affairs!🌟

This day is important because it highlights the challenges young boys face today, from societal to academic pressures . By focusing on them today, we prevent future neglect and ensure they grow into respectable and resilient men.

This year, we focus on the powerful theme: "Empowered Boys, Responsible Men: Thriving Emotionally, Socially and Academically." Investing in our boys today shapes a healthier and brighter tomorrow. ✨

To support this initiative , we have partnered with schools across the TCI alongside male leaders , mentors and role models. Together, we are providing the mentorship and guidance our young men need to succeed.

Let us continue to invest in their development, provide stronger mentorship, and create supportive environments.

In recognition of International Day of the Boy Child observed annually on May 16th, the Department of Gender Affairs was proud to have male leaders from across our community including our past International Men’s Day Awardees visiting schools throughout the TCI today!

A huge thank you to Omardi Morris for spending the morning with the boys at Faith Preparatory School!

It wasn't just about talk, it was about action! Mr. Morris got the boys moving with fun activities, showing them firsthand that a strong mind goes hand-in-hand with a healthy body. 🏃‍♂️💪

During the session, he shared an inspiring message: their biggest dreams are within reach, but greatness takes dedication and practice. Whether on the field or in the classroom, he challenged them to put in the work to become the men they aspire to be.

His visit perfectly captured the spirit of this year’s theme: “Empowered Boys, Responsible Men: Thriving Emotionally, Socially, and Academically.”

Our 2026 Boy's Day events falls under the Department's "Boys 2 Men: EmpowerMENt Programme', aimed at promoting positive masculinity within the TCI.
