The Turks and Caicos Islands Human Rights Commission (TCIHRC) proudly congratulates Director, Mrs. Kabatha Smith, on being recognized as an award recipient at the International Women’s Day Exemplary Awards Ceremony, held on March 21st, 2026 under the theme “All Rise: Honouring Women Advancing Law, Human Rights and Justice.”

We are equally proud to share that the inaugural Director, Mrs. Doreen Quelch-Missick was also honoured as an awardee at this prestigious event, a testament to her lasting contributions to human rights and justice in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

☕✨ Justice at the Table: Advancing Equality Together

The Turks and Caicos Islands Human Rights Commission (TCIHRC) was pleased to participate in the “Justice at the Table” High Tea Event hosted by the Department of Gender Affairs on March 14th, 2026 in Grand Turk.

The event brought together women and girls for meaningful dialogue on progress and ongoing challenges in achieving equality. As part of the programme, Deputy Director, Ms. Enjaleek Dickenson, served as a panelist, contributing to an engaging discussion that sparked thoughtful reflection and conversation among attendees.

It was an inspiring and impactful event, highlighting the importance of creating spaces where voices are heard, opportunities are expanded, and equality is actively pursued.

The Commission looks forward to continuing its collaboration with stakeholders to promote gender equality, empowerment, and human rights for all.

🤝 Advancing Religious Freedom Through Community Engagement

The Turks and Caicos Islands Human Rights Commission (TCIHRC) was pleased to participate in the Public Affairs and Religious Liberty Day hosted by the Blue Hills Seventh-day Adventist Church.

As part of the programme, Education and Outreach Officer, Mr. Samuel Lightbourn, served on a panel where congregants were invited to ask questions and engage in meaningful dialogue surrounding religious freedoms and freedom of conscience.

The event was both insightful and impactful, highlighting the important role that faith communities play in promoting dignity, respect, and human rights within our society.

The Commission looks forward to participating in more events like this as we continue to work collaboratively with community partners to advance awareness and protection of fundamental human rights across the Turks and Caicos Islands.

👩🏽‍🏫📚 Empowering Grade 4 & 6 Students Through Human Rights Education ✨

On Tuesday, March 10th, 2026, the Turks and Caicos Islands Human Rights Commission (TCIHRC) conducted a Human Rights Training for 52 Grade 6 students and 56 Grade 4 students at Enid Capron Primary School.

The session was led by Education and Outreach Officer, Mr. Samuel Lightbourn, using the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) to guide interactive discussions and engaging activities. Students explored their rights and responsibilities while building understanding, empathy, and respect. 📖🌟

The Commission extends heartfelt thanks to the teachers, principal, students, and staff of Enid Capron Primary School for their warm welcome and enthusiastic participation. We look forward to returning for another enlightening session! 🙌🏽

📢 Pop Up For Your Rights – Community Outreach

On March 5th, 2026, the Turks and Caicos Islands Human Rights Commission hosted a Pop Up For Your Rights (PUFYR) session at Smart Supermarket, Downtown Providenciales, engaging directly with the public to promote human rights awareness.

During the session, Commission Officers interacted with 132 individuals, distributed educational materials, and answered questions on a range of human rights topics.

The Commission remains committed to strengthening public awareness and access to human rights information across the Turks and Caicos Islands. Stay tuned for the announcement of our next PUFYR session in the new financial year.

On Friday, February 27th, 2026, the Turks and Caicos Islands Human Rights Commission (TCIHRC) conducted a Human Rights Training for 65 Grade 6 students at Thelma Lightbourne Primary School.

On February 25th, 2026, the Turks and Caicos Islands Human Rights Commission conducted a scheduled facility review at His Majesty’s Prison.

The visit formed part of the Commission’s ongoing oversight efforts to assess conditions, follow up on previous recommendations, and evaluate compliance with established human rights standards.

The Commission remains committed to advocating for continued improvements, fair treatment, dignity, and the protection of human rights for all individuals residing in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

📍✨ Pop Up For Your Rights – Grand Turk

On February 25th, 2026, the Turks and Caicos Islands Human Rights Commission hosted a Pop Up For Your Rights educational booth at Graceway Supermarket from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

During the session, 126 patrons had the opportunity to engage directly with our Education and Outreach Officer, Mr. Vernal Lightbourn, receiving educational materials and guidance on understanding their rights, including how to file complaints on behalf of themselves or others. 📚🤝

We remain committed to promoting awareness, empowering the community, and safeguarding human rights for all individuals in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
