🇹🇭🤝🇰🇷 Bangkok Youth Experience a Youth Exchange with Seoul in the Republic of Korea, Strengthening the Bangkok–Seoul Friendship

The Director of the International Affairs Office and four officials from the International Affairs Office, Office of the Permanent Secretary for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, led a group of 30 Bangkok youth to join the Bangkok Youth Development Program with Sister Cities (2026 Seoul–Bangkok Youth Cultural Exchange) from September 7–11, 2026, in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The host organization was the Seoul Youth Center for Cultural Exchange (MIZY Center). The program provided an opportunity for Bangkok youth to learn about the history, culture, way of life, and urban development of Seoul through real-life experiences. One of the highlights of the program was the opportunity for the Bangkok youth to meet the Mayor of Seoul at Seoul City Hall. This was a special experience that gave the youth a chance to learn about the work of a city leader. On the same day, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration executives and officials also held a meeting with Seoul officials to exchange views on youth-related activities and future cooperation between Bangkok and Seoul.
Throughout the exchange, the Bangkok youth learned about Seoul’s history, traditional culture, and contemporary culture through various activities. These included visits to Gyeongbokgung Palace and the National Museum of Korea, as well as trying K-Pop dance, singing, and music recording at the Seoul Youth Music Center. The youth also learned about green spaces and urban development through the Seoul International Garden Show, and experienced traditional Korean culture through handicraft activities at Namsangol Hanok Village. At the same time, the program gave youth from both cities opportunities to meet, talk, and take part in activities together. Then Thai and Korean students were divided into groups to explore and learn about Seoul together. They also took part in a language and cultural exchange with students from the Thai Studies Department at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, before sharing their performances and experiences at Youth Exchange Night. This trip was therefore not only an opportunity to learn about Seoul’s places and culture, but also a chance for youth from both cities to get to know each other, learn from one another, and build good friendships.

BMA Partners with BCCT to Discuss 6-Dimensional Collaboration, Aiming to Elevate Quality of Life for Bangkok Residents and Drive Net Zero and Smart City Initiatives

On Friday 4th September 2026, Bangkok Governor Mr. Chatchart Sittipunt held a consultative meeting with representatives from the British Chamber of Commerce Thailand (BCCT) to explore urban development partnerships, exchange policies, and jointly address key challenges to elevate the quality of life for Bangkok residents while facilitating smoother and more efficient business operations for BCCT members. BCCT, representing over 600 member companies, offered to leverage its members' experiences and business best practices to help drive Bangkok forward in 6 key areas: Digital Government and Smart City; Skill and Workforce Development; Climate Action and Energy Transition; Tourism, Hospitality & Responsible Economy; Community Safety and Inclusion; and Health Care and Universal Design.

In education and skill development, the meeting highlighted the need to improve the English language skills of over 250,000 students under the BMA's jurisdiction. The Governor of Bangkok proposed scaling online learning and artificial intelligence (AI) programs to rapidly and widely improve students' speaking skills. Simultaneously, BCCT offered to collaborate on vocational training classes and suggested implementing succession planning concepts - such as those used by listed companies - to develop BMA personnel and prepare them for middle-management roles. Discussions also touched upon employment initiatives, including matching senior citizens to work in shops alongside the younger generation, as well as supporting employment for people with disabilities to foster an inclusive and equitable society.

Regarding the environment and mobility, the BMA invited BCCT member companies to actively participate in office energy reduction, waste sorting, and tree-planting initiatives to expand green spaces. The Governor welcomed testing private-sector environmental innovations through pilot projects in the city. On city planning and zoning, the BMA is drafting a new city plan and is ready to receive feedback from BCCT. The Governor proposed controlling entertainment zones through licensing instead of relying solely on zoning laws to allow greater flexibility and prevent community issues. Additionally, the BMA aims to distribute "Pocket Parks" (small green spaces) closer to people's homes - such as utilizing areas under expressways or temple grounds - and improving mobility through enhanced walkways, bike-sharing systems, and a unified ticketing system for public transport.

Furthermore, the BMA Governor expressed readiness to join future BCCT gatherings or board meetings to hear from members directly and assist with municipal processes, such as lighting improvements and building permits, to make Bangkok a liveable city and foster sustainable, collaborative investments.

The Governor of Bangkok Welcomes JMTC Delegation to discuss progress on the Bangkok Mass Timber Public Library Pilot Project

On 1 September 2026, Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, The Governor of Bangkok, welcomed a delegation from the JAPAN Mass Timber Overseas Promotion Council (JMTC), led by Mr. Yasuhito Kawauchino, President of ITOCHU (Thailand) Ltd. and Vice President of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce. The meeting held at the Amarin Room, Bangkok City Hall (Sao Chingcha), aimed to present the progress and conceptual design of the Bangkok Mass Timber Public Library Pilot Project.

JMTC is an official agency designated by the Japanese government to promote the use of Mass Engineered Timber. This innovative and eco-friendly building material serves as an excellent alternative to concrete, offering remarkable strength and resilience against heat and moisture. Regarding The pilot public library project is a continuation of the initial discussions held on 23 September 2025. Today’s meeting focused on shaping the project’s development guidelines, technical specifications, and cross-agency coordination. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is currently being drafted and is expected to be finalized within 3 months.

Concurrently, both parties proposed an initiative to construct a prototype pavilion in a BMA public park, such as Benchakitti Park. To allow the public get up close and experience this construction technology firsthand.
