IMPORTANT NOTICE! NEW ENTRY RESTICTIONS TO NORWAY – COVID TEST AND QUARANTINE REGULATIONS FROM 9.11.20!

• People arriving in Norway from countries/areas labelled as “red countries” by the Norwegian health authorities, are required to quarantine and present a certificate of negative Covid-19 test. The test must be taken less than 72 hours before entry. If you don’t present such a test, you may be refused entry.

All countries outside the Schengen area are by default, considered as “red countries”. This includes Thailand and all the countries the embassy handles visa applications for as a hub.

Here you can read more about the test and who the requirement applies to: https://www.udi.no/en/about-the-corona-situation/currently-not-in-norway-questions-and-answers-for-nationals-outside-eueea/#link-18962

• Those who are not resident in or own a residential property in Norway or business travellers whose employer or client arranges suitable accommodation in a single room when entering Norway, must stay in a quarantine hotel for the first ten days after entry to Norway. It is therefore still possible to visit Norway, but visitors must spend their first ten days at a quarantine hotel and test themselves during their quarantine period. This also applies to family members who come to visit relatives in Norway, and for visits to boyfriend/girlfriend.

• The Norwegian health authorities are responsible for the new rules: https://www.helsenorge.no/en/information-in-english/

Here you will find information about the Norwegian health care services, and selected topics relevant for foreigners.

a. Ordinært pass til søkere over 16 år 1290 kroner/4300 THB
b. Ordinært pass til søkere under 16 år 770 kroner/2600 THB

On 22 September 2020 Ambassador Kjersti Rødsmoen visited Norwegian Seafood’s booth at THAIFEX–ANUGA ASIA 2020, one of the world’s biggest Food & Beverage industry trade shows, and held annually in Thailand. The Norwegian Seafood stand was visited by Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, H.E. Mr. Jurin Laksanawisit, who also made remarks at the opening ceremony of the event.

Even though the Norwegian exporters were not able to travel to Thailand this year, the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC) represented them very well and showcased a variety of Norwegian seafood products. Live video conferences between Norwegian exporters and potential buyers in Thailand were organized at the event.

Seafood counts for 50 percent of the total export from Norway to Thailand. After a dramatic decrease of sales during March and April due to the impact of COVID-19, we are catching up again and hoping that the sales this year in total will be close to last year.

Special tourist visa for long-stay visitors:

The Thai Cabinet approved on 15 September 2020 a special tourist visa for long-stay visitors who agree to go through a 14-day state quarantine or alternative state quarantine (ASQ) or hospital quarantine. The relevant ministries and agencies are still discussing the details.

Here you can find more information about the scheme:

The Cabinet, during its meeting on 15 September 2020, approved a special tourist visa for long-stay visitors who agree to go through a 14-day state quarantine, or alternative state quarantine, as well as hospital quarantine.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports, which proposed the special tourist visa, was told to discuss the issue in detail with the Ministry of Interior and other relevant agencies.

The proposal aims to help Thailand’s tourism industry, which has been affected by the COVID-19 situation. Thailand earned at least two trillion baht a year from international tourist arrivals before the COVID-19 outbreak.

Long-stay visitors wanting to stay in Thailand are required to show evidence of their payment for hotels they will stay, or condominium rooms, after the quarantine. They must agree to comply with measures set by the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand.

This visa will allow them to stay in Thailand for 90 days. It can be renewed twice, for 90 days each time. The special tourist visa will cost 2,000 baht.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports stated that Thailand has been able to effectively handle the COVID-19 situation, and that it is recognized as one of the safe destinations in the world. Many groups of foreigners with high purchasing power intend to stay for a long period of time in Thailand with their families.

The Government will begin to open up for long-stay tourists in the areas where the spread of COVID-19 is prevented and controlled.

UDI 2012-006

Following the strict entry restrictions into Thailand due to the corona situation, there are no commercial flights to Thailand now. Because it is so difficult to return, a visitor visa to Norway will only be granted in extraordinary cases.

Some airlines already offer flight tickets from Norway to Thailand now. However, there are currently no commercial flights to Thailand, and it is uncertain whether booked flights can take place as planned.

These temporary changes in the visa practice will last until commercial flights resume to Thailand.

For information on your possibilities for getting a visitors visa now, please visit The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration’s (UDI) webpage: https://www.udiregelverk.no/en/documents/udi-guidelines/udi-2012-006/”

Help me to help Kevin. He lives in a bar with hes mother in Udon Thani. This is Kevin. Hes 1 year and 10 months old. Hes father got killed in a traffic accident just before the kid was born. Now Kevin is growing up in a bar in Udon Thani where hes mother works. I want to help collect some money for him to buy food, and clotes and what he needs to have a little more normal life. If the money is enough I will also arrange for him to go to kindergarden in Udon Thani. Please share this post guys. Thank you
Kevins father is Norwegian and died in a traffic accident writes Børge Salvesen on "Thaifeber"-facebook group. Kevin lives in Udon Thani with hos Thai mother. This is an increasing problem, and Sjømannskirken with state financing found several hundreads Norwegian kids needing help some years back. For me, working in an organisastion Human Rights in Norway(Menneskerettigheter i Norge), I find the treatment of Norwegian kids, and Thai kids with a Norwegian Caregiver, not acceptable. And I ask the embassy to look closer into theese problems and Kevins situation, if help is needed, please contact us.
