Last week, the embassy participated in the “Roundtable on Brand Norway in Thailand,” hosted by the Thai Norwegian Chamber of Commerce.

The event began with opening remarks by Ambassador Astrid, who highlighted the Thailand-EFTA Free Trade Agreement (FTA) as a significant step towards strengthening trade and investment ties between Thailand and Norway. She concluded by reaffirming Norway’s commitment to supporting Thailand on its path to OECD membership.

Following this, Mr. Pongpol Yodmuangcharoen, Secretary to the Minister of Industry, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between businesses, the government, and local communities to drive sustainable growth.

The remainder of the event featured insightful discussions and interactive workshop, with Norwegian and Thai businesses sharing their experiences, particularly in the field of sustainability.

A sincere thank you to the Thai Norwegian Chamber of Commerce for hosting this successful and engaging event!

𝟏,𝟎𝟗𝟖 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀.

That’s how long Ukraine has been fighting for its survival and for the security of all of Europe. This war is about the future of Ukraine as well as defending freedom, sovereignty and the very principles that have kept Europe safe since 1945.

This crucial message is underlined in an op-ed by the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs together with the Nordic and Baltic Foreign Ministers in the Financial Times.

Read the full op-ed here:

The future of the post-1945 security order hangs in the balance

Today marks 3 years since Russia launched its illegal full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The heroic efforts of the Ukrainian people throughout over 3 years of horror is deeply impressive. Lives have been lost, homes destroyed, but Ukraine’s fight for freedom continues.

Ukraine fights not only for its own survival but for the very principles that bind us together and are enshrined in the UN Charter and International Law; sovereignty, freedom, and the rule of law. They are also fighting for European security, and the core principles of international law.

There can be no peace talks about Ukraine, without Ukraine or Europe. Nothing about Ukraine, without Ukraine. Nothing about Europe, without Europe. Any solution must be just, lasting, and guarantee Ukraine’s full independence, sovereignty, and freedom to choose its own path – including its alliances- both now and in the future.

🎉 Happy Nordic Day 2025! 🇩🇰🇫🇮🇳🇴🇸🇪

The four Nordic Embassies in Bangkok—Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden—came together to celebrate our strong bonds and shared values, reflecting the unity, goals, and friendship that define our region. This year’s Nordic Day was once again held in the beautiful garden of the Norwegian Residence.

The Nordics stand for trust 🤝, equality ⚖️, sustainability 🍃, innovation 💡, security 🔒, and openness 🌏—values that continue to strengthen our collaboration both within the region and with our partners worldwide.

This celebration was also a moment to recognize the deep and long-standing friendship between the Nordics and Thailand. 🇹🇭 We were truly honoured to welcome H.E. Dr. Lalivan Karnchanachari, Thai Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, as our guest of honour. 🎖️

✨ A huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined us in making this event so special! We also extend our sincere appreciation to our amazing Nordic sponsors, whose support made it all possible: AstraZeneca Thailand, Atlas Copco , Bumrungrad International, ECCO , Finnair , KONE Thailand, LINAK , Novo Nordisk , Pandora , PYN Elite, Seafood from Norway Thailand, Saab, Telenor Asia , Valmet , Tetra Pak Thailand and Yara Thailand .

Norway and other EFTA countries have signed a historic trade agreement with Thailand, eliminating tariffs on nearly all Norwegian goods entering Thailand. Minister of Trade and Industry of Norway Ms. Cecilie Myrseth signed the agreement on behalf of Norway and Minister of Trade of Thailand, H.E. Mr. Pichai Naripthaphan, on behalf of Thailand.

This milestone enhances market access and predictability for Norwegian businesses in one of Southeast Asia's fastest-growing economies. Notably, 83% of trade will be duty-free upon implementation, increasing to 99.8% over 15 years. Important exports from Norway to Thailand include seafood, fertilizers, wood pulp and iron and steel products.

This marks a phenomenal way to commemorate 120 years of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Norway and we are confident that the agreement will accelerate economic growth and strengthen trade ties.

Today Thailand becomes the first country to legalize marriage equality in Southern Asia.

Ambassador Astrid attended the opening ceremony of the Marriage Equality Day, celebrating this momentous occasion and offering congratulations on behalf of Norway.

The right to marry the love of your life, regardless of the gender, is a significant step towards a more inclusive and equal society. Norway applauds those who have advocated passionately for marriage equality in Thailand. You have succeeded and because of it, love has triumphed.

Congratulations Thailand! 🏳️‍🌈 🎉

This year we celebrate 120 years of Thailand-Norway diplomatic relations. We are grateful for the attendance of H.E. Mr. Mongkol Surasajja, the President of the Senate, H.E. Mr. Pichai Naripthaphan, Minister of Commerce and H.E. Dr. Lalivan Karnchanacharif, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs at the annual Seafood under the Stars dinner.

A warm appreciation goes to the efforts of the Thai Norwegian Chamber of Commerce for organising Seafood under the Stars. What better way to celebrate the 120th anniversary by enjoying the best of Norwegian seafood together with more than 350 of our highly appreciated partners in Thailand.

This occasion was important in highlighting the benefits of Thai-Norwegian cooperation, notably Norwegian Seafood and tourism to Norway. 2025 will be the year that the EFTA countries and Thailand signs a free trade agreement. We are confident that the agreement will accelerate economic growth and strengthen our trade relations.

Thank you for a successful event and happy anniversary! 🇹🇭🤝🇳🇴

🇬🇧 The Embassy attended the two-day Commemoration of the 20th Anniversary of the Indian Ocean Tsunami, honouring all the lives lost and all those that survived. Surviving victims have built back their lives and communities. Many strong impressions and stories.

Last week, the Embassy and the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History celebrated the 140-year anniversary of the book ‘Temples and Elephants’ by the Norwegian explorer Carl Bock. 📖

Bock wrote this book following his 14-month stay in Siam in 1881-82. It offered insights about a country few Europeans knew much about at the time and captured the attention of thousands of readers. Since it was published it has been translated to five languages. 🗺️

The book was celebrated at Chiang Mai University and the National Library of Thailand in Bangkok that has opened an exhibition related to Bock’s travels. The exhibition is open until 28 February, 2025. 🇹🇭
