Ambassadør Kjersti Rødsmoen oppdaterer om:

- Corona-situasjonen i Thailand
- innstramninger i visum og innreise til Norge
- vaksinering i Thailand

Stricter entry rules to Norway from Friday 29 January
To limit the risk of transmitting the significantly more contagious variant of the coronavirus, the Norwegian Government is imposing far stricter entry rules. As a main rule only foreigners residing in Norway can enter Norway, as well as all Norwegian citizens (regardless of where they live). There are some exceptions to this general rule. The Norwegian and Swiss embassies in Bangkok recently launched the Thai-EFTA Business Circle in the Norwegian Ambassador’s Residence in Bangkok. EFTA is short for The European Free Trade Association and consists of the four non-EU European countries Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland.

The Thai-EFTA Business Circle is an informal group of representatives from private and public companies and institutions from Thailand and the EFTA countries. Its purpose is to strengthen the interaction between Thai and EFTA business communities with the support of the Embassies and our bilateral Chambers of Commerce. It will also be a vehicle for mobilizing support for the upcoming process of negotiating a Free Trade Agreement between Thailand and EFTA. The Business Circle will provide a space for conversation and consensus building while strengthening the stakeholder relationship in the process.

At the event on 17 December (which was before the reports of the recent Covid-19 outbreak in Thailand), there were approximately 50 representatives from institutions and businesses from Thailand and the EFTA countries. From the Thai side we were pleased to welcome Director-General Auramon Supthaweethum (from the Trade Negotiations Department), Mr. Chusak Chuenprayothwere (Vice Chairman of the Board of Trade of Thailand and from the Thai Chamber of Commerce), Senator Wiboonlaksana Ruamraksa (who is also the former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and the former ambassador to the World Trade Organization). Prof. Dr. Kriengsak Chareonwongsak, President of the Institute of Future Studies for Development (IFD) delivered the key note speech about his findings of the benefits and implications of negotiating a free trade agreement between Thailand and EFTA.

EFTA parliamentarians are planning to visit Thailand in November 2021.

Stricter rules for testing and quarantine upon arrival to stop coronavirus mutation.

The requirement to present a negative SARS-CoV-2 test prior to arrival when travelling to Norway is being amended to require a test taken 24 hours prior to departure instead of 72 hours. Furthermore, all persons who have been to the UK, South Africa, Ireland, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal and Brazil must undergo a PCR test at the Norwegian border. The quarantine rules are being tightened and will now apply to arrivals from all countries, with fewer exemptions in place and increased requirements in terms of testing.

https://www.facebook.com/thailandprd

The Thai-Norwegian Chamber of Commerce held its yearly garden party at the Ambassador’s residence on 12 December. Both adults and children enjoyed traditional Christmas dishes, games and Santa Claus.

PROMOTION OF THAI SILK NORWEGIAN STYLE/FREMME AV THAILANDSK SILKE PÅ NORSK VIS

The yearly fashion show of the “Celebration of Silk” event took place in Bangkok on 6 December 2020. Norway participated together with 100 other countries. The honorary “models” are ambassadors and other diplomats from the foreign missions. In addition to promoting world renowned Thai silk, the aim is to showcase each and every country and their particularities. Because of Covid-19, the outfits this year were designed and produced by Thai fashion students instead of designers from the individual country. The Norwegian ambassador Kjersti Rødsmoen thanks the impressive students of Saraburi Vocational College (just North of Bangkok) for producing her Norway-inspired dress.

Please watch the video from the ambassador’s daytrip to Saraburi to meet the students there and to try on her dress: https://youtu.be/pY8DVIH1Dr4

Help me to help Kevin. He lives in a bar with hes mother in Udon Thani. This is Kevin. Hes 1 year and 10 months old. Hes father got killed in a traffic accident just before the kid was born. Now Kevin is growing up in a bar in Udon Thani where hes mother works. I want to help collect some money for him to buy food, and clotes and what he needs to have a little more normal life. If the money is enough I will also arrange for him to go to kindergarden in Udon Thani. Please share this post guys. Thank you
Kevins father is Norwegian and died in a traffic accident writes Børge Salvesen on "Thaifeber"-facebook group. Kevin lives in Udon Thani with hos Thai mother. This is an increasing problem, and Sjømannskirken with state financing found several hundreads Norwegian kids needing help some years back. For me, working in an organisastion Human Rights in Norway(Menneskerettigheter i Norge), I find the treatment of Norwegian kids, and Thai kids with a Norwegian Caregiver, not acceptable. And I ask the embassy to look closer into theese problems and Kevins situation, if help is needed, please contact us.
