Phare Ponleu Selpak is a non-profit art school and social circus for marginalised young artists in Battambang. Last February our Ambassador had the pleasure of visiting Phare for a cultural collaboration project by Belgian artist Lennert Vandenbroeck.
Phare has launched a video to raise awareness on COVID-19 prevention through handwashing. The video features the students of the social circus along with some highly influential Cambodian hip hop artists from KlapYaHandz. The video is conceived and produced by Minor Act.
Phare Ponleu Selpak is supported by the EU.

Ring the Bell
In celebration of International Women's Day, the Thai stock exchange in Bangkok hosted the 'ring the bell' event to raise awareness of the pivotal role the private sector can play in advancing gender equality and women's empowerment.
Representatives of the Belgian Embassy in Thailand were also present, as we are firmly committed to the realisation of gender equality, non-discrimination and protection from gender based violence.
Yesterday, the official launch of the KU Leuven Alumni Chapter took place at the Residence of Belgian Ambassador Philippe Kridelka. The KU Leuven, one of the oldest and most renowned universities worldwide, aims to provide its alumni a professional and social network in Thailand. Alumni, both Thai and Belgian, were welcomed by baron van Daele minister of State and chair of the alumni association Alumni Lovanienses vzw, rector Luc Sels and of course the Belgian Ambassador. This event was one of the first in our series of activities for the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the first Siam-Belgium treaty.

Zero Plastic Day
Thanks to The Jam Factory and WOFWOF, we are very proud to share with you our video about the "Zero Plastic Day" we organised the 8th of September at the Belgian Embassy. During that day, the whole team was asked not to use any plastic. We had the pleasure to welcome representatives of the Metropolitan Administration of Bangkok who came at the Embassy to collect batteries and other hazardous waste, while explaining to us how waste was recycled in Bangkok.
After that, we went to a local market an bought lunch without using any plastic, trying to explain to the vendors why it is important to reduce the use of plastic. Finally, a quiz was organized in order to raise awareness about the consequences of plastic on the environment.
It is important to remind that the average Thai person uses 8 plastic bags every day. These bags usually end up in our rivers and our oceans. Now is the time not only to raise awareness, but also to take action! Let's keep Bangkok clean!

#CleanUpTheWorld2017 was a real success!
Thanks to the efforts of all the volunteers that took part in #CleanUpBangkokRiver, a total of 132 kg of trash was collected in just one hour. That includes about 4800 plastic items, including 2000 bags, 700 bottles, 600 glasses and 1500 other small pieces of plastic waste.
Knowing that approximately 8 million tons of plastic end up in our oceans every year, it is high time to reduce our plastic consumption!

On this special occasion, the ambassadors also cut the birthday cake marking the 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, the treaty that laid the foundations of a united Europe. #EU60
The result of ROA's work for the Bukruk Urban Art festival can now be seen in China town in Bangkok. If your long-tail boat on the Chao Phraya river is slow enough you will even be able to spot his elephants while sailing by. On the pictures below you can see the Belgian artist in action. The Belgian Embassy is very proud of this piece of Belgian art in Bangkok!
