Maerim elephant sanctuary, founded in October 2016, is an elephant conservation project km from chiangmai city. Here at the sanctuary, The objective is to create a family environment where visitors can relax in the jungle with the gentle and intelligent creatures that elephants are. Our mission is to rescue the elephants and provide for them a happy and easy life with ample freedom and good health

. We practice positive reinforcement to gradually heal the scars of their unfortunate past. At Maerim elephant sanctuary, We never ride the elephant or force them to work or perform. We believe that if our elephant family is happy, our visitors will be happy too.

If only we could understand everything they say to each other…

A gentle touch of the trunk. A quiet moment between two elephants. To us, it may look simple but elephants have their own ways of communicating, comforting, greeting and connecting with one another.

The more time you spend observing them, the more you realise how much there is to understand.

At Maerim Elephant Sanctuary, we don’t want you to simply come and see elephants.

We want you to watch them, ask questions, learn about their behaviour and leave understanding them a little more than when you arrived.

Because once you begin to understand elephants, you see them very differently.
