Spreading Love and Smiles at Lily Elephant Camp: A Heartwarming Thai Elephant Day Celebration

In celebration of Thai Elephant Day on March 13, 2026, Lily Elephant Camp, a cozy ethical sanctuary in Pa Klok, Phuket, was honored to host a special event under our initiative: "Love Elephants, Love Their Community."
We were delighted to welcome children from the Phuket Special Education Center (Pa Klok Service Unit), along with their families, teachers, and assistants. It was a day filled with warmth, education, and shared happiness.
Our guests had the opportunity to observe the daily lives of our rescued elephants, learn about their behaviors, and enjoy feeding sessions. This event was designed to provide a safe and joyful space for the children and their families to bond while connecting with nature and these majestic "Gentle Giants."

At Lily Elephant Camp, we are deeply committed to community support and sustainable development. Being part of this meaningful project brings us immense pride, and we look forward to organizing more social initiatives that benefit both our community and our elephants in the future.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made this day possible—especially the Moo 7 Pa Klok Community and our visitors from around the world. Your continued support allows us to provide a loving home for our elephants and contribute positively to the place we call home.

Heartwarming Moment at Lily Elephant Camp
This video was captured by our team at Lily Elephant Camp. It shows a touching moment after Si Nuan experienced a period of stress and anxiety due to her deteriorating vision.
As things began to settle down, the youngest member of our camp, Yaya (also known as Kaew Manee), stepped in to comfort Grandma Si Nuan. You can see her calling out gently and using her trunk to touch Si Nuan’s cheek and ear. It was as if she was saying, "Don't be afraid, Grandma. We are right here with you."
A Special Bond
Yaya and Si Nuan didn't grow up together; they met for the first time here at our camp. Unlike the older elephants who spent their early years working in the logging industry, Yaya grew up in an environment where she was trained for performances. This background has made her exceptionally expressive—much like a young child who has been to school.
Because of this, Yaya displays communication skills that differ from the other elephants we care for. She is incredibly affectionate and often shows her love or gratitude through "hugs" and "kisses."
Note: We’ve kept the original audio in this video so you can clearly hear the elephants "talking" to each other.

Stay tuned! Next time, I’ll share more stories about this incredible young girl and her journey.

Pee-ka-poo by Si-Nuan 🐘💞

We’ve been taking Si-Nuan out for strolls lately, exploring the surrounding areas to find the most comfortable and safest spots for her.
With the morning air being so fresh and cool, our "Grandma Elephant" is in a particularly wonderful mood! We currently offer a forest trekking activity that usually takes about 30-45 minutes. However, when it’s Grandma’s turn, expect a full 60-minute journey—mostly because she loves to stop and "go shopping" for her favorite greens along the path!
Adapting to Her World 🌿

Si-Nuan’s spirits are high, and we are working closely with veterinarians to help her adjust to her failing eyesight due to advanced cataracts. She is now nearly blind, so she’s learning to rely more on her hearing. If you visit her, please speak up clearly so she knows you’re there; this helps prevent her from being startled when we are close by.

Health Update 🩺
Many have asked about treatment for her eyes. After consulting with the medical team, we’ve decided not to proceed with surgery. Given her advanced age, the high dosage of anesthesia required for such an operation poses a severe risk to her life. We’ve agreed with the vets and caretakers that palliative care is the best path—focusing on environmental adjustments and specialized care to keep her safe and happy.

Movement is Medicine 🚶‍♀️
Taking Grandma and the other elephants trekking and bathing remains a vital part of their routine. Walking helps keep their muscles flexible and relieves pressure on their joints. As Thailand warms up, a refreshing bath every 5-6 hours is essential to help them cool down and stay relaxed.
We’ll keep you updated on Si-Nuan and everyone at our camp. We only ask that you approach our story with an open heart and look at the reality of elephant care. We love every single one of them and provide the best care possible, with no favorites. 🐘✨

Si-Nuan: Our 56-Year-Old Grandmother Elephant 🐘🤍
Si-Nuan has been a part of the Lily Elephant Camp family since the very beginning, three years ago. Her journey to us wasn't easy. After a lifetime of heavy logging work, her aging body and failing eyesight—caused by a tragic accident—made her "useless" in the eyes of her previous owners. She was put up for sale cheaply, but fate stepped in when a kind soul rescued her and brought her to us.
Looking at her was the moment we decided: "We have to do this." We had to build a camp for souls like hers.
Si-Nuan is now almost completely blind. One eye was lost years ago to a hook injury, and the other has succumbed to cataracts from years of harsh sunlight and debris. The world is becoming a dark place for her, and it terrifies her. The sound of an engine—a car starting or a bike passing—is enough to make her flinch and turn her head in fear, haunted by memories of past pain.
This is why we moved our camp to a more secluded, quiet forest—just so she could find peace.
Lately, her world has dimmed even further. Over the last few days, she can no longer recognize faces. She relies entirely on her sense of smell and the sound of our voices. People often ask us why we have to guide elephants so closely. For Si-Nuan, her mahout (caretaker) is her only bridge to the world. Without him, she would be confined to a small cage for her own safety. But with him, she can still walk through the forest, feel the grass under her feet, and find her favorite fruits safely.
Her fear of engine noises has grown as her sight has faded. Now, even the familiar sound of the tricycle bringing her food scares her. So, we adapt. We speak louder. We touch her more gently. We talk to her constantly so she knows she is never, ever alone.
Our Promise to Si-Nuan: We may not be able to bring back your sight, but we will be your eyes. We will never abandon you. We will slow down this darkness with as much love and care as humanly possible.
To our visitors: If you meet Grandma Si-Nuan, please speak to her clearly. Touch her gently. Let her feel that there are kind hearts right here beside her. She may live in a world that is going dark, but she will never live in a world without love.
Please send some love and encouragement to our Grandma Si-Nuan. ✨🙏

Crafting the perfect itinerary takes teamwork! We’ve been scouting new routes with our elephants to bring you closer to nature than ever before.
Special thanks to Lucky and Grandma Sri Nuan for the help—though Sri Nuan’s scouting style involves walking for 3 steps and stopping to eat for 10 minutes! 😂🍃
